I know someone who had the opportunity to do a side-by-side compare of a G5 and SDS100 on the Peoria County StarCom similcast site and while both were pretty spot on, the G5 did catch a few transmissions that the SDS100 missed. Those missed transmissions were fairly short, most under a second or 2 in length, but something worth noting.

I've heard that Unication is working on a firmware to give more "scanning" options like hold/delay, but no word on an ETA.

If you're scanning multiple sites with a SDS100 or -200, you may miss a short (~1 second) transmission that's not broadcast on all sites being scanned. If you don't want to miss anything, you need to do a site hold with the SDS.

Thanks Bill. I should have the unit Friday so I should have a report after the weekend. When I'm home, I plan on leaving the SDS100 on one system and the G5 on the other much of the time. Then, having the SDS100 working on two systems simultaneously (without missing any transmissions) is what I'm hoping for.

I read about the Unication G5 hold delay option almost 2 years ago. I won't hold my breath for it's implementation.

Thanks Jon. I don't mind missing 1 second of a transmission when scanning multiple sites. I am just hoping I won't miss any transmissions when holding on 1 Starcom-21 system that will be scanning about 15-20 talkgroups.

Hold on a site, and the only way you miss traffic on that site is if you have the Service Type for a talkgroup turned off, the talkgroup is in a Department disabled by Location Control, or there are simultaneous keyups on multiple talkgroups.
