• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I agree. In fact, I was thinking about a workaround this afternoon. The best that I could come up with on short notice is to program a never, or rarely, used talk-group in the first position, or even the first few positions, and since they are almost never used, it would, in essence, never or rarely switch to the priority talk-group.

But does it prioritize the TOP talk group (in which case a "fake" talk group like 9999 would work too), or the whole list?
I need to pay closer attention to see which it does. I think the latter, but not positive.

Most of the time when I am receiving a P25 talk-group, it displays the six digit radio identification number (RID). However, a little bit ago I noticed that one of the talk-groups was active and below it listed P25T. In fact, it may have been a talk-group that was patched with another talk-group. Anyway, has anybody else here seen this and, if so, happen to know the significance of P25T in the display rather than the RID?

It's my understanding that it prioritizes the whole scan list. Evidently a bug that will need fixed. I'd rather it allow us to select what we want as priority.

What may have happened is that it caught a conversation mid way through and when that happens it probably wont decode the radio ID. That happens on my XTS and APX units. So lets say it was stopped on channel A and they stop talking, scan resumes and picks up channel B while the conversation is on going. Because it picked up the conversation while it was active and not freshly initiated it may not get the info needed to display radio ID. just my guess.

That'd be my guess too - I've used MANY radios, and some will decode a ID mid traffic. For example, I just tried on my Harris P7200, and it does, so...

Awesome, keep us updated. I've ordered mine. Probably won't be here for a week or two. Seems like they are having trouble getting enough in.

I've been curious about how much t band stuff was around besides California. I glanced at a few different statewide systems and most seemed to be 7-800.

Maybe you can post a video demonstrating not only the G5 receiving traffic (we've kind of seen that) but also briefly going through the menu and/or showing how you have yours setup?

So what's your thoughts so far?

So far, it's great. Reception on V/7/8 is great. The speaker seems louder than the G4 - but I could be wrong, I haven't had a G4 in a while. Audio on conventional seems louder than audio from a P25 system - but that's even the case on two way radios I've had. Programming is a breeze. I'll work on a video when I can.

-Does anybody happen to know of a suitable mobile speaker that would work well with the Unication G5? I am thinking that one that connects to a micro USB cord for power would be nice.

-What are people here doing for mobile mounting? I tried my PanaVise 777 ClipCaddy Holder, but the belt clip is just a bit too wide to work with it. Does anybody know of any other competitors for devices similar to the PanaVise ClipCaddy that would accommodate a wide belt clip? PanaVise Products, Inc.

-Has anybody here bought the drop in amplified charger? I would think that having that connected to a higher gain antenna would be quite handy.

-What other antennas have people tried with this so far? I am still using the Motorola DTR550 on mine and it is working quite well.

-I haven't done much with conventional channel monitoring yet. Is that also limited to 64 conventional channels?

The drop in charger/amp has a built in speaker. It also has a whole lot of IO connectors on the back but no manual was included to say what they do! I still need to track that down, but I would assume one might be audio out.
It also has an antenna connector.

There's a speaker / earphone jack... But all the jacks on the back should be labeled.
