To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anybody happen to know if other belt clips can be attached to the G5?

-Does anybody happen to know of a suitable mobile speaker that would work well with the Unication G5? I am thinking that one that connects to a micro USB cord for power would be nice.

-What are people here doing for mobile mounting? I tried my PanaVise 777 ClipCaddy Holder, but the belt clip is just a bit too wide to work with it. Does anybody know of any other competitors for devices similar to the PanaVise ClipCaddy that would accommodate a wide belt clip? PanaVise Products, Inc.

-Has anybody here bought the drop in amplified charger? I would think that having that connected to a higher gain antenna would be quite handy.

-What other antennas have people tried with this so far? I am still using the Motorola DTR550 on mine and it is working quite well.

-I haven't done much with conventional channel monitoring yet. Is that also limited to 64 conventional channels?
Maybe we could convince Unication to include an earphone jack in the next model.
Don't get me started. !!

Just about any Bluetooth speaker should do it. The JamBox series can have constant power applied, for fixed place usage.

The belt clip appears removable. Is there another one that will work? Not sure. Maybe a 3rd party might make one. Is there something you don't like about the belt clip?

Yes, the belt clip is removable. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, I would like to have a PanaVise 777 ClipCaddy Holder to hold the G5, however, the OEM belt clip is just slightly too wide to work with the ClipCaddy. So, I can either find another device that will hold the G5 or I can modify the G5 clip to work with the ClipCaddy.

It doesn't solve the Panavise problem because it's the same width, but I have a G1 clip on mine. It's "shallower" (meaning the gap for the belt is smaller). It's nicer for carrying the pager on a regular (civilian) belt where you don't need a big opening.

Anyone with a G4 or G5, are you able to go into the menu and select some type of 'monitor mode' for a trunking system? I can't seem to find a way to do it in the software but I've read it can be done in order to pickup all talkgroups on the system even the ones you don't have programed in. When I select monitor mode for a knob position instead of TG scan it just gives me the option for conventional freq range.

Also, has anyone tried putting in FFF wildcard for all system settings and turning full spectrum scan on to see if it would scan and 'discover' a system without anymore information programmed?

Monitor mode can be accessed here Menu>Function Status>Monitor Mode. Monitor in the Software pertains to analog.

Using all F's will work in a pinch but the unit operates better if specific system info is entered.

Yes, on the device, select Menu, then Function Status, then 3. Monitor Mode, then On, then select Set. It will monitor everything.

That not so good when there are 325 TGs and many are encrypted.
Nice to know it works though.

I did some more research on Bluetooth speakers. So far, I have been interested in some from Motorola, one from Brookstone, and a couple from Ecoxgear.

I was at a Brookstone near me this afternoon and they had a few Big Blue Go Wireless Bluetooth Speakers in stock. It looks like they are no longer making these. The website shows that they are Currently Out Of Stock. I like that this has a mounting bracket with a suction cup for windshield mount. The reviews that I have read on these are favorable. Big Blue Go

Since I like Motorola naturally I Googled Motorola Bluetooth speakers. One of the ones that comes up in a search is the Motorola X Sol Republic Deck Ultra Wireless Bluetooth Speaker System. One of the features that I particularly like is that it has 3.5 mm jacks on it for both input AND output. So, if I understand this correctly, you could use this to received from the Unication and also "daisy chain" a wired commercial and mobile loud speaker to it. Motorola

There are also other Motorola Bluetooth speakers available, some of which have a visor mount. I think the visor mount would be quite handy for a number of installations. One of the other Motorola Bluetooth speakers is the Motorola Roadster 2. This also has a built in FM transmitter, which might be handy for sending to a broadcast radio receiver.

Another one is the Motorola SonicRider Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone.

The Bluetooth speakers from Ecoxgear that have a compatible suction cup mount are the Ecorox and the Ecopebble speakers. The Ecopebble is a monaural speaker. It looks rugged and is waterproof.

The Ecorox is rugged, waterproof, and has a pair of stereo speakers built into it. It might be the definitive choice if you want to mount a speaker in your Jeep and continue listening in the rain with the top down!
https://ecoxgear.com/ecorox/

It looks like the 1/4-20 male that Ecoxgear uses is common to the camera industry. It should also be noted that RAM Mounts, which makes quite a bit of gear for squad car mounts, also has compatible gear for the 1/4-20 male thread.

I haven't finished researching this yet. This just happens to be what I have found so far and I hope to hear comments from others regarding compatible Bluetooth speakers suitable for mounting in a vehicle.

JASII, just out of curiosity are you having trouble hearing it while in the car or would just like more options? Hopefully mine will be here this week or next and I'll be able to decide for myself. I was also looking at Bluetooth speakers, probably a visor mount but I figure if it's loud enough to hear I'm not gonna mess with another device that I'll just have to keep charged.

In my Honda Accord, I have no trouble hearing it. However, in my Chevrolet Silverado pickup, that has no air conditioning, with the windows down, it can be a challenge to hear it. Also, part of it is history with me. I have had amateur radio mobiles that had poor speakers. They always sounded better with a dedicated speaker.

I was thinking about in the future possibly experimenting with a mobile antenna and the thought popped in my head of an xtva of sorts. I bet we could modify the amplified speaker to work mobile.

Phase II should be out by the end of the year if not early 1st quarter of next year. The Phase II compatibility will come in the form of a Firmware update. I will be sure to let everyone know when it is available.
