• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I got a used Amp/Charger from Unication that was just about useless. The antenna jack did not work. I got no programming cables and the USB cable will not go into the side of the G4 with it locked into the base. It also produces a loud popping noise as a TG becomes active and then shuts down. Cant use it. My rep believes it was a proto type. No good.

You bought from a dealer? What did your dealer say?

Will the G4 have Phase 2 P25 added like the G5? I don't know that I really need the 2nd UHF or VHF band, and am wondering if I might save a little money, and be able to get a G4 sooner. Finding pricing and availability hasn't been quick and easy by any means.

My understanding is the G4 and G5 will both get Phase II. Both G4 and G5 should be the same price through the end of the month, I believe..

I believe it was stated that the G4 (and G5) will get Phase II towards the end of this year or nearly next year.

Unication *New* G4 And G5 Pagers/Somewhat Limited Scanner

June 30th came and went. What's the latest on the prices? Have they gone up, stayed the same?

Although their website doesn't reflect it, I have been told that the Motorola Minitor V/Minitor VI trade in offer is still available. What I did was "buy" a $75.00 Minitor V and had it shipped to my dealer and then I took advantage of the $200.00 off offer.

Unication *New* G4 And G5 Pagers/Somewhat Limited Scanner Open Top Pager Case

If someone here is looking for an Open Top Pager Case, or other design, this company has them. This has a belt loop, rather than a belt clip.

299 OPEN TOP PAGER CASE [299] - $19.90 : R&B Fabrications, Over 40 years of experience supplying Fire and EMS Professionals

Here is another places with various cases: Pager Cases - TheFireStore

I have also been trying to determine which Motorola Minitor that the Unication G5 is closes to in size. That way some of the accessories, like cases, might work with the Unication G5.

The Unications G5 dimensions are listed as 102 x 61 x 31.5 mm

The Motorola Minitor V is listed as 3.52 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches (89.408 x 60.96 x 12.7 mm)

The Motorola Minitor VI is listed as 4.1 x 2.4 x 1.0 inches (104.14 x 60.96 x 25.4 mm)

I haven't been able to find the dimensions of the other Motorola Minitor pagers, so far.

Unication sets a "minimum selling point" - meaning a dealer cannot sell below a certain amount. So my suggestion is contact a dealer, and find a price. Unfortunately, most dealers will all be around the same amount, so your best bet is to find the dealer closest to you, or with inventory, or maybe one offering an incentive - free shipping, etc...

And if you do find a dealer who happens to sell at a lower price point dont openly tell the world about it. This thread has already seen one dealer get his abilities to sell pulled. Everybody is happy to get a great deal and no body wants to hurt a dealer.

Thanks for the replies. Was just curious to see price changes, after the introductory price was supposed to change after June 30th, but I see this remains "secret". It is as if they (Unication) is not actively seeking to promote sales. I've already seen what happened with the dealer in question, not to worry, won't divulge any prices here to harm anyone. I'll be checking the Unication site to see if they have posted any price info / change.

Prices and availability for
G4 700/800Mhz
G5 VHF/700/800Mhz
G5 UHF450/700/800Mhz
Any promotions(free shipping, trade-ins, etc.)?
Do you have a website?

I'm getting very close to ordering one, but it seems more difficult to shop for these for some reason.

We are a Unication dealer in TX. What are you looking for?

We just became a dealer last week. I have requested the info from Unication and will get it to you as soon as they get it to me. Hopefully today or tomorrow. We have 5 G5s out in the area that seem to be working great. The system admins are even getting interested in them.

I ordered a G5 800/UHF unit to monitor a local P25 simulcast system that gives scanners a fit in a lot of areas. I bought it from Ray's Pagers sales. He was quick to respond to emails and shipped quickly. Here are my initial impressions:

In the box, I received a battery, antenna, belt clip and a quick start guide that was translated terribly from chinese to english.

Pros:
-well built
-scans simulcast P25 beautifully where current scanners (BCD436 for me) can't decode at all
-battery life is pretty decent
-smaller than most scanners

Cons:
-white noise/hissing background noise every time the thing unmutes. In a quiet environment, it is much more noticeable. For those who say the audio is as good as a moto radio, I have to disagree. The audio quality is not even as good as my BCD536 (ignoring the simulcast issue).
-wide belt clip means it doesn't fit my standard holders
-changing zones is really a nuisance-too many button presses and takes a minute to actually change zones
-when you are in the menu, you constantly get interrupted when a TG that is being scanned becomes active
-serious need for a TG hold function
-it seems to occasionally miss active TGs all together which are being passed on my scanner. I haven't figured out a pattern here.

I still haven't tried any conventional frequencies just yet.

I should also add that I have been unable to make the thing pair with any Bluetooth devices.

It seems to be following patches okay-I'll have to get unitrunker up and confirm to be sure.

I can echo some of Evans experiences. I've had my G5 for a few days now and am currently monitoring a UHF simulcast system. It does sound good and deals with simulcast perfectly but it does have a slight hiss when the speaker comes on to pass audio. Sometimes it's louder than normal. I also notice low audio on my local system but I think it's more of a user issue. On my statewide system it's usually much louder. Every once in a while the speaker will emit a quick pop before or after a transmission also.

I'm not sure these speaker issues can be fixed with firmware or if it's a physical issue with the speaker. All in all I'm very pleased. It runs circles around any scanner. I have not noticed any missed transmissions. Not sure if it's following patches correctly or not but I think it is. We have a Harris system and one of the TGs is occasionally patched with a analog repeater and it's broadcast on a completely separate TG. My scanner would always create a temporary TG in the 65000 range but the Unication seems to always use the same TG as does Unitrunker.

If anyone has any specific questions I'll try to answer as time allows. I'm also making a sort of bug/wish list and may pass it on to Unication David if he thinks it would help any.
