• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Yes like trying to switch zones (well of anything else for that matter). I purposely leave a blank knob position in every zone due to this. I tried just unscrewing the antenna but a couple of times I had such a good signal it still kept receiving. I agree, I wish there was a way to do anything while it was actually receiving.
Yes, I have a blank knob position just for that purpose as well.

1/4 to 1/2 mile. Really depends on the ERP of the sector, antenna down tilt and rad center.
Ok thanks, ya I'm about a mile and haven't noticed anything odd on the Unications. I'd have to get with someone and get the ERP, down tilt and Rad information. Again, thanks.

I carry 2 Unication, some carry more. Can't go wrong with G5.

No de sense in my Unication.

Program a blank ch per zone, user preference. I think it's a waste of a channel.

Commercial radios, easy to miss a step. When the PTT is accidentally pressed, radio can only be used for parts.
User will easily loose 3/4 of the cost when selling the parts.

I have been using Unication G5 pagers 700/800 & VHF since early 2019 when I made a migration for our department to switch from the Moto Minitor pagers. Since that I can say that I love these units and they work great for conventional VHF paging and 800 mhz scanning of our talkgroups.

I have noticed the reception does great into simulcast areas and even the vhf range for paging was increased in audio quality on those fringe areas away from the paging control sites.

Fast forward to 2024 and “most” other departments are using them as well.

I liked it so much I purchased a 2nd one a couple years ago to use personally.

The Unication programming software is easy to use. And it’s a great “portable scanner”
