Small rant: I would like to know how many incidents happened where a scanner listener has endangered law enforcement.
I bet it is less than 1%. Only one I can recall is when Tim Walz's daughter was helping the rioters in 2020 from the Governor's
mansion. In fact I bet more scanner listeners have helped the police than hinder them.
Also nice to know when some nut like "Nhan Lap Tran" is shooting at cars near the parking lot of Cub in Oakdale. My sister was there inside shopping so, I called her and said stay put. That was 2013 he killed a 9-year-old-boy and left two women injured.
Or when some "herc-a-ma-jerk" is driving westbound in the eastbound lane of 694 last summer.
My wife and her brother were coming back from Buffalo so, I called him and told him to take the next exit and wait until I hear it
is clear. That was last July at 11PM.
Hopefully the media stations can get together and sue DPS using the "freedom of information" act.
I'm holding my breath.

There was an article I read a year or two about a county going encrypted somewhere, I don't remember where. The sheriff used the officer safety line as justification. When the reporter asked the sheriff to provide specific examples he was unable to provide a single one.

A long time ago, I was traveling around St. Cloud when I heard MSP put out a BOLO on a vehicle. The trooper arrived at the stated location and found nothing. I was a few miles down the road and happened to notice the vehicle. I called MSP dispatch and gave them the correct location.

There have also been times I've heard reports of collisions, and I detoured the area, just to avoid traffic.

So there are good points to being able to hear scanner traffic.

Seems like a more better option would be to enhance crime penalties if scanners are used to thwart police.

Bob is fully in on encryption for tactical, and special operations, but has stated many times not on dispatch! Heck the CAT team, and Gangs Task Force run full-time encryption.Have for quite some time. The problem he faces is letting us all hear most radio traffic on the show. FBI may not let that happen too much longer. He does at least mute feed when certain things are talked about.

You won't see them publicly available on a feed or node not because of encryption, but because they are not allowed to be streamed by Broadcastify terms as tactical channels. Node hosts get access to talkgroups that aren't publicly available on the systems they are uploading.

Correct, no law enforcement, or medical tactical is allowed to be streamed. Only fire tactical.
