Using Your New TRX

You can use the scanner with out EZscan but it will not update. I have had not trouble using my win 7 pro 64bit win 8 pro 32bit win 10 pro 64bit on my tablets laptops desktops. For my RS Pro18 RS Pro668 TRX-1 and TRX-2

I just got a TRX-2 and have discovered three issues.

1) My computer does not see the scanner or its SD card when the scanner is connected to the USB port. Works fine with every other USB device I have, including Uniden scanners with SD cards. I also tried to download the software from Whistler to install on the computer to see if it helped, but see #2.

2) The EZ Scan download from the Whistler website requires as much information, including credit card, as an actual purchase, yet the software is free. Not cool.

3) On the scanner itself, in Menu mode, I can see options for keypress volume, light intensity, etc., but these settings cannot actually be changed.

1) What PC OS are you running Win 7, 8 or 10? If 8 or 10 there is a driver work around to get it working.
2) Its Whistler's new website. there is no cost for the downloads.
3) What button did you use to try and change these settings? IIRC the Vol/SQ knob will not change them, you have to you the keyboard Arrows.

Windows XP SP-3.

I am not willing to provide a credit card number for no reason. If it's free, then it should be a simple download.

I tried arrows, the button and the knob. No effect. I even tried entering numeric values from the keypad.

Does your right/left buttons work for other functions? Pressing the power button quick gets into the backlight setting as well. Does that work?

You can not enter numeric values on almost all menu items. Does the arrow keys beep with each keypress? The numeric values do not change or you do not notice any changes when you step thru the values?

It's often a needed "enable" setting right above the changable setting that needs to be ticked.

I'm in the same boat as Dave. Trx-1 is not recognized by Windows 7, and Windows XP. I had ( Bryan) at Whistler log on to my comp, and he could not remedy problem on Windows 7 machine. He said that possibly my laptop being 6 years old, and not having latest usb 3.0 set-up was causing the problem. He did say after me taking it to work and trying on my work computer, that if it didn't work, he wanted me to send it in for repair. The unit is two weeks old,

The backup battery charges when the scanner is turned off. (Don't understand making it USB power dependent when it's plugged into the mains, but that's another topic.)

With Windows 10, you need to install/update and run EZScan BEFORE plugging in the scanner into the PC. Otherwise it won't be recognized.

I guess the instruction manual needs revision. It says that my computer should obtain EZ Scan from the scanner's SD card. At least now I know where I can get a copy.

Hard to beleive that a max of 100kb/s transfer rate will require the latest drivers for USB3.0 ?

I downloaded EZScan from the Whistler Group website and installed it onto my Windows XP laptop. Communications are now flowing between my computer and my TRX-2. Thanks to any and all who provided the pointers to the solution!

OK, it worked yesterday. Today, my computer cannot see my TRX-2 again.

I've tried several startup sequences: scanner off, scanner on, connecting scanner before and after starting software, etc.

On top of that, I am finding the Library functions in EZScan to be quite irritating.

For example, when I import by my zip code, it tells me that it knows of 5 trunked systems. There are many more than that nearby. Also, I see no DMR systems or frequencies at all, and there are also quite a few of those on the air (and in the RRDB).

Specifically, I can find no way to obtain data on the OneVoice Connect Plus multistate network. It does not show up as a system or an agency, even if I try to import the entire state. Also, the full state import shows far fewer trunked systems than actually exist.

I have all service types turned on.

I'm very close to switching to the more expensive Uniden 536 because my 436 works fine.

The TRX-2 turned out to be defective. Yesterday, shortly after I posted the above message, the TRX-2 was still connected to my USB port and the "Charging backup battery" message was on its screen.

Windows threw a USB device malfunction error and the screen on the scanner went dark. I removed and reinserted the cable, which caused the scanner's SD card to appear in Explorer momentarily. After that, however, the scanner would not power up. So, I got an RMA from the vendor and will be shipping it back.

I suspect that the price was so good ($525.00 shipped) because the particular vendor might be reselling returns. I wrote "DEFECTIVE - DO NOT RESTOCK" on the RMA tag just in case.

The vendor was Lessco Sales, doing business via Amazon.com, in case anyone else has had similar experiences.

I love my TRX-2 however.on MARCS-ip it cuts off transmissions after about one syllable. Anybody have similar experience? Are there some settings I need to adjust? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Brought home a brand new TRX-1 tonight. I picked it up in New Hampshire at Ham Radio Outlet. I live in a brick apartment building and one of the main systems I like to monitor is a P25 simulcast system that I've always been just on the fringe of receiving reliably. I have tried many antenna setups/placements (I'm limited being in an apartment with no outside access). Long story short the TRX-1 is clearly outperforming a Home Patrol 1, a Pro-197 & the Grecom version of the 197 on that P25 system. I am currently using a 800MHZ Yagi indoors. I was unable to pick up the P25 with the RS 800MHZ duckie prior to getting the Whistler. The Whistler picked it up pretty well with just the duckie and so far has been excellent on the yagi.

I was also able to get the software running on my Mac (using parallels) and I got everything updated so a double plus. Now to figure out how to use the software. That's another story...

Just my two cents. I know everyone's mileage varies but so far so good here!

I use this on my TRX-1 for 800MHz only coverage...puts a little attenuation in for those simulcast systems. ;-)

How do I get a Windows 7 PC to not say device malfunctioned when I plug in the USB? I installed EZ Scan, then plugged in the scanner, and it instantly gives the malfunction error. Tried updating and pointing to the TRX-1 driver on EZ Scan and direct download from Whistler, says I have the latest and still not working. I am trying to set up my TRX-1 remote demo so the guy who makes the Win500 Android app can try to make an Android remote app for the TRX using Whistlers nifty protocols.

Strangely enough, Parallels on Mac Windows 7 never has issues with anything, but real Windows 7 PC's are always a PITA!
