How do I get a Windows 7 PC to not say device malfunctioned when I plug in the USB? I installed EZ Scan, then plugged in the scanner, and it instantly gives the malfunction error. Tried updating and pointing to the TRX-1 driver on EZ Scan and direct download from Whistler, says I have the latest and still not working. I am trying to set up my TRX-1 remote demo so the guy who makes the Win500 Android app can try to make an Android remote app for the TRX using Whistlers nifty protocols.

Strangely enough, Parallels on Mac Windows 7 never has issues with anything, but real Windows 7 PC's are always a PITA!

Paul

What's the exact wording on the error? Does it appear on a pop up dialog box or within Device Manager?

How do I assign a trunked radio system to a scanlist with the EZScan program, once the system has already been imported. I know you can do it when importing but I see no way to do it once it's already been imported, if I didn't originally assign it to a scanlist.

Go to your talkgroups and assign them to a scanlist.

Click in the cell that corresponds to the scan list column and it will pop up allowing you to select it/them.

Hello,

Try uninstalling the driver in device manager, reboot, and install the driver first before plugging the scanner in.

Yay, tried that a couple of times.....so far as uninstalling then reinstalling EZ Scan....my Windows PC simply hate this scanner, will have to keep using my Mac for this scanner. :-(

I can assign TGIDs to a scanlist that way, but I can't assign a system to a scanlist.

Correct. You want to assign the talkgroups to the scanlist...buddrousa beat me to it but I'm quoting you so maybe you'll see it faster.

Talkgroups are already assigned to a system...you can dump ALL talkgroups from a system into a single scanlist, and that would be similar to setting a system QK on an old Uniden...that's what I do.

The two inserts for the protective cover of the TRX-1 provide a handy battery reminder. Whenever alkalines are on board, I use the grey insert. Whenever NiMHs are on board, I use the olive drab.

When I first got my TRX-1 and went through all the motions, everything seemed to load as it should. But when I tried to use EzScan, it could not find my TRX-1. I am using Win 8.1 and I opened up the device manager. It had my TRX-1 listed under "Other". I right mouse clicked on the TRX-1 and clicked on properties. When that opened up and on the first tab "General" the box labeled "Device Status" said that the drivers were not installed for the TRX-1. For some reason my computer running Windows 8.1 would not load the Whistler Drivers. It had to do with a security setting and loading 3rd party unsigned drivers. I googled "loading unsigned 3rd party drivers in Win 8" and found out how to get them installed. Once I got them installed I have had no trouble and it is now listing the TRX-1 under Ports in the device manager.

What do you think the chances are that Paul Optiz The Uniden guy bought himself a Trx-1?

Though they may deny it or never admit it, I am quite confident that Uniden (whether it's Paul or others) owns a nice set of Whistler scanners just like Whistler likely has a collection of Uniden products. I'd be surprised if they didn't, for the purpose of checking them out, etc., for competition reasons.

TRX-1 SD Card data format?

Just curious if the data files stored on the SD card are human readable and/or viewable with spreadsheet or text editor software? If yes, is there data layout map available?

Got my TRX1 this past week from ScannerMaster (downloaded the PDF manual and EZ Scan PC app beforehand to "prep" myself). Since I've been used to Unidens (BCD396XT is my "retired" unit), I had some "learning curves" to work on. For the most part, working the TRX 1 has been good, thanks to the app. Two questions I have with programming: 1). Is there a very quick and easy way to erase and/or transfer scanlist objects? 2). How can I use the PC app to set up new scan sets (up to 20 possible) and add more scanlists? Thank you.

For the most part, working the TRX 1 has been good, thanks to the app. Two questions I have with programming:

1). Is there a very quick and easy way to erase and/or transfer scanlist objects?

I believe the easiest way to erase (remove) any/all objects from a given scanlist in the PC software would be to click on the "Scanlist" tab, select the scanlist in question, and remove or delete the objects you no longer want.

In terms of transfer - I assume you mean like move all objects in scanlist 10 to scanlist 20. If so, there isn't anything like a "rename" option; you just need to select the objects to "move", and update them. Again, the best option might be using the "Scanlists" tab - you can select that items in a given scanlist and reassign any/all of them to an a new (or additional) scanlist.

2). How can I use the PC app to set up new scan sets (up to 20 possible) and add more scanlists?

Not sure I understand this question. I don't use scan sets very often. However, I believe scansets are simply additional filters and/or ways to group objects regardless of which scanlist(s) they belong to. I think for best performance, you need to have all scanlists enabled and then you go to the Scan Sets panel on the Advanced Features tab of the PC software. There, you create "scan sets" (give them names) and then assign the scanlists of interest to any given scan set.

Hello,

GRE/Whistler organizes scanner data differently than Uniden. One suggestion for the GRE/Whistler EZ Scan program is to enable the Advanced, Trunked System, and Conventional tabs. This will make it easier to see the data.

You create a favorites list on Uniden that contains the information on the systems you want to monitor. If you put the same system in two different favorites list then it exists on the scanner like two separate systems. Changes on one favorites list will not affect other favorites list. You enable and disable favorites lists. There is also an option to scan the whole database which could be considered a favorites list of the whole.

GRE/Whistler puts the Trunked Systems, and Conventional Frequencies in a pool in the virtual folder. The scanlist is a method of organizing the information. There is a fixed number of scanlists. You can see this if you look how imported data from the RRDB is handled. The different categories are put in different scanlists. If I wanted to have a scanlist of my city, I can just go to the Conventional tab, select the frequencies, and add them to the scanlist I want. I can remove a frequency from a scanlist by just editing the scanlist column for the frequency. There is no need to delete the frequency unless it is no longer on any scanlist.

On the EZScan software: Advanced tab > you'll see the scansets list at the right

Click on the "Scan Set 1" name and you can name it whatever you want
Then click in the cell to the right and the list of scanlists will pop up - you can select whichever scan lists you want to be a part of that particular scan set.

A scan list can be a part of more than one scan set if you wish.
