• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,
I'm having a problem with the radio. It seems that first second or so of a received signal is getting cut off. It happened when the radio is in both scanning and not scanning. I've tried the power saving functions both on and off with no success. Just wondering if anyone has some ideas as to what it may be. Also I'm wondering which version of the firmware is the old and which is the updated version. I don't know which version I have at the moment as I am at work, but I will post it later on today. Any help is much appreciated!

I had an issue with this while the channel was in mixed mode. I contacted Vertex and they basically said tough luck. Im not sure if the 454 is digital or not but that is my experience.

Some radios take FOREVER to decode PL/DPL. I had a kenwood that would take almost a full second to pass audio with receive DPL, yet a Motorola P110 would be almost instantaneous decode listening to the same frequency w/ receive DPL enabled

Ironically enough I just got done testing it with and without receive PL tones. No difference. Even when it's not scanning the antenna icon will light up but the audio is slow to come out. It's really got me befuddled. I DO appreciate all the input so far.

I have a 454 arriving tomorrow, but I noticed in the software that "Squelch Level" is automatically set to 4. It can be changed for each frequency. Maybe changing that would do something. My programming cable was back ordered but I'll program a couple of freqs in by hand if I can and see what happens.

This is what the help menu in the CE115 VX 450 series software says:

SQL (SQUELCH) LEVEL:
This parameter individually selects the precise value for the "Noise SQL Threshold".

I also found this:

RX SENSITIVITY TUNING ALIGNMENT
This parameter is to align the RX BPF (Band Pass Filter) for Receive (RX) sensitivity.
The PLL Reference Frequency (Frequency) alignment must be done before this alignment is performed.
1. Press the “RX Tune” button to start the alignment ,then RX Sensitivity Alignment window will appear.

2. Select the "ADJ Type" whether "Basic" , "Single" or "All Freq".
Basic : "Low-edge / band center / high-edge" and select the channel for alignment (Default)
Single : Alignment value changes only on the selected channel.
All Freq : Alignment value changes on all channels.

3. Click the left mouse button on the slide bar or press Up / Down arrow key , to switch to the selected channel.

4. Set the Signal Generator according to the indication at the top of the screen.

5. Drag the slide bar, click the up-down buttons, press the left or right arrow key, or enter the value in the entry box to get the best RX sensitivity. (Highest RSSI value).

6. Click the “OK” button to finish the RX Sensitivity alignment and save the data.

I don't know for sure, but maybe this would help.
