Snowstorm i.d.'s

Ref snowstorm, I am only searching Federal T.G. id's and those I have yet to run across and enter. That said, I have 51973 active Statewide Events Echo 3. It is being operated by "Western Branch". The activity consists of "Highlander" and "Blacksheep" completing stranded vehicle rescues in Burke County.

Not hearing much except SHP responding to multiple wrecks. Did hear interesting comms from NGJOC (52032) asking base to notify DOT that an IMAP truck just went into a ditch on 540 in Raleigh.

Heard an interesting conversation yesterday on TG 52374 (Caswell Family CHC VMG4). 3 units were chatting about refueling the generator at "the Aircare base" and using a fuel delivery company out of Denton (I'm assuming Baptist Aircare 1 base in Lexington). Has TG#52374 been repurposed as a Baptist Aircare channel? Anyone in the know?

Hearing two unknown talkgroups today on the West Raleigh tower, 52246 and 52247, most traffic on 52247. Traffic is mostly encrypted except for one of the five radios, all of which definitely sounds like a Viper Tech. RIDs are in the 2126xxx range. Conversation was about installing loops and the channel not being green, and changing from red to green as they made changes in the patch panels and channel banks.

Possible test talkgroups?

52600 unk hospital group

52600 overnight on the 14th. They are operating out of Morganton in Burke County. They are transporting patients that are at Grace Hospital, and Blue Ridge Hospital. I don't know who "they" are. They leave and return to "campus" from transporting patients. No radio i.d.'s show on my TRX 2 recording. I had my EZ Scan turned off during the recording session, no log...

I have 52243 up here in the hills, marked as unknown. If I remember right, it came in with no conversation, just an i.d. popping up.

Why these troops

As I have mentioned previously, I have not spent a lot of time learning the ins and outs of VIPER functionality. I have been trying to ignore something that happens quite often, it is the Eastern N.C. SHP troops being dispatched and operating normally off of Ashevilles two sites, Meadows Mountain and White Fawn. On any given week, you can name a county in Eastern N.C. and I have them on either site.
An example for today, 52149 - Troop B dist 3 Onslow, 52151 - Troop B dist 5 Columbus Bladen- dispatch radio i.d. 2499915, 52152 - Troop B dist 6 New Hanover Brunswick- unit radio i.d. 2150273- dispatch radio i.d. 2499917. I.E., vehicle crash on U.S. 17 at Sweetwater, by the Wal Mart...
I can understand if a single unit has to make a trip across the state, his radio can be set for a different district, but what I find all the time is daily operations, and I do not understand how this can occur. Who can fill me in??

I believe what you are talking about, hearing out of area units/tg on a local tower, is very common, especially here in Raleigh with the NCSHP Training Center tower. This can happen whenever a unit from out of area is in the other area and affiliates with the local tower (my terms used might not be the best).

On any given day I'm hearing a wide variety of SHP districts, hospitals, and even event talkgroups, that are not from the Raleigh area and shouldn't be heard off the West Raleigh or NCSHP Training Center tower. That's because one or more units are in the area, passing through or doing training/operating in the local area.

The other possibility, given your example, is that the talkgroups are being cross patched with one dispatcher handling both troops. This too is very common on Viper and local trunked systems.

troops

I knew that was possible, I had mistakenly thought that the system would have just affiliated the users radio to the local troop, but, hey, what do I know? haa. I'll take your advice on that, and live with it, still seems an odd way to run a system. Thanks

This is a Broughton Hospital TG but I have no idea what the official name is.

Caught a little traffic on Wilkes FD 1 (49504). I rarely monitor those tower sites since they are so weak here, but that is the first time I think I've heard anything out of Wilkes on VIPER.

Hi IcomicR20, thanks for the update. Did you happen to get any RIDs?

No I did not. I just caught the tail end of some traffic so I didn't catch the RIDs. If I hear it again, I'll make note of the IDs.

I left the radio on that TG for a while, but didn't hear anything else.

Also, there is the Justice Training Academy in Edneyville, if a trooper from another area left his radio on his home district then the traffic would transmit on the local tower? Could that be a possibility also?
