i am statying in new port news from sat to sat, can I listen to county fire, coast guard or anything else. I am bringing my GMR ht . I did get approval to use the repeater thank you. any suggestions to listen to please let me know, fire , life guards, etc! Thank you very much.

Depends on what type of radio you have. Newport News is P25 as well as most surrounding localities. Fire for Newport News is in the clear as well as most city services but Police is all encrypted. Coast Guard uses the standard VHF marine frequencies as well as conventional VHF P25

Add the STARS P25 system too, it’s the state agencies radio system, the Hampton site should be in range for you if staying in NN
