Kenwood does; however, have their own proprietary signalling called FleetSync, which has more of a musical quality to it.

Fleetsync is a very brief MSK burst, shorter and less noticeable than MDC1200.
There's nothing "musical" about it although the radios can be enabled to emit a tone to let the user know when to start talking and on a number of Kenwood models that tone will get into the microphone if the volume is turned way up or if its used in an echoey place like a car. That's probably what you're hearing.

OK so when you're shopping around for a roger beep device to add to your ham radio, remember the spectrum hoarders out there with a lot of money and influence and when the Federal Spectrum Sales & Leasing Commission considers whether or not to sell off some ham bands and they tune in and hear a bunch of CB noisemakers, they're probably going to say "we've already got enough citizen band radio services, this one can go to the highest bidder"
