Wake County EMS & SHP

Hi folks!

New to the forums here but have been scanning for over 40 years, all the way back to when you had to buy crystals to plug into the receiver. Recently however I have been experiencing an issue I have been unable to find a resolution for. If anyone can help, you don’t know how much I would appreciate it!!!

In the past two or three weeks I have been unable to receive the EMS and Fire dispatches on my scanner. It’s like they just quit talking. I still can receive the PD dispatches and the dispatcher talking to the vehicles and their response but no auto dispatch traffic.

I have NEVER been able to receive the SHP unless they are communicating on one of the interagency channels.

I have updated the database with the latest version (as of this morning 8/25) but still no cure. I can faintly pickup an analog EMS dispatch but it is VERY faint. My home is about a half mile from a county fire station which has a digital repeater(?) on their tower and my signal strength is great. I can pick up Wake SO, RPD, Morrisvile PD as well as all the others in the county.

My scanner is a handheld Whistler TRX-1 with a 800 mHz rubber ducky antenna.

Do you have the different agencies (Wake/Viper) in two different scan banks?
What sites do you have programed in for the systems?
Have you made sure the proper TGs are in there?

I have a TRX-1 and Modified Pro668 and it works fine, can't DM you (you are too new) but if you want to try my programming we can work out to get it to you.

sounds like you only have the wake system and not viper programmed in for the no shp traffic not sure on the fire traffic. maybe check your lockouts to make sure those talkgroups didnt get locked out by accident

Thanks for the reply. I have the programming that the TRX-1 software provides. I just download the latest frequency update then upload that to the scanner. Beyond that, I only go in and block out the agencies I don’t want to hear. I know that there are different groups under the tab “Trunked Radio Systems”, Wake County , Cary, NCViper and Raleigh Durham.

There are several talk groups under each system. That’s where I go to lock out the group I don’t want to hear. Beyond that... that’s all I know.

I would love to try your setup to see if it works for me! I can PM you my email if you’d like.

If you have the time and are willing, in addition to your setup, a primer on tweaking the programming would be a godsend! Soooo many things to tweak and set. My brain ain’t as fast as it used to be!!
