Amazing, but not surprising. I know nothing about the company that was going to build it out, but I questioned whether they could deliver after seeing their building lol. Good luck to WashCo. What a cluster they've managed to get themselves into.Washington County to terminate 911 emergency radio contract with MRA
Washington County is planning to terminate its contract with MRA Inc. a little more than a year after approving the agreement with the North Strabane-based company to upgrade the countywide 911 emergency radio system. “After a long, arduous, expensive process, we are back to the drawing board,”...www.observer-reporter.com
Factual information.... Lawrence Co on VHF regrets it.... PA StarNet I believe has quite a few issues with VHF. And the # of freqs Washington obtained was very low for a full county wide trunking system IMHO. UHF- Pittsburgh and Allegheny Co are tying up lots of UHF along with the WV State system..... gonna be tough to get freqs there as well.... 700/800 while not easy is very doable in terms of frequencies. Coordination just takes a little longer....I heard that with the termination of this contract they are looking into other bands as well. 7/800 is supposedly what they are hoping for. All rumored though.
I think going with 7/800 after already having license for VHF seems wasteful.

If u call using a vehicular repeater to provide hand held coverage impressive.... ur side of the state might be better. Are you talking frequency resources per site or overall coverage? I've been pretty impressed with the coverage given the number of sites. The challenge I see is the number of frequencies per site. I think some sites should really have another pair or two, but VHF availability is scarce.
Anyway, back to Washington Co....
If you think the county has created a cluster, wait until you see the tax increase that scrapping a system build in progress and throwing a lifeline to Moto and MCP causes them. They're on the hook for whatever the big M sells them now, instead of having any other options. If the Commission had issued licenses, then due diligence must have existed. They talk about a 3rd party study that was "unfounded"... that doesn't sound very damning. This smells of something else. Amazing the level of influence that exists in small-town politics.Amazing, but not surprising. FCC returned the applications and told them to file an extension 2-4 weeks ahead of the original Nov 6 deadline.Interesting that the contract was essentially terminated by the Board of Commissioners the same day that extension was granted by the vendor whose contract is in process of cancellation.....
Considering Washington County Commissioners revoked the contract on that system and issued a new RFP for it.... No way in hell is anything built out.......For what it's worth, and it likely isn't worth much. They filed FCC apps suggesting at least partial buildout of the sites.

Well- if you look at the people listed as notifications on the license.... One is the principal with the company whose contract was thrown out, the other is an x-employee that hasn't been with the county in some time. Take that for what its worth.Guess they are just fibbing to the FCC so that the FCC stays off their back about buildout requirements. They seem to really want to hold onto these licenses for some reason

Par for the course here in LA LA land
Sounds like the commissioners plan on voting today to approve a contract with Motorola for their new P25 radio system. Though it seems like at least one commissioner is questioning the secretiveness of the contract. Sounds like the commissioners themselves haven't even seen a contract or amounts that they have to vote to approve today.
Washington County expected to select Motorola for emergency radio upgrades
Washington County officials are planning to negotiate a multimillion-dollar contract with Motorola to install the new emergency radio system for first responders, although no details on the cost or scope of the work have been released. The county commissioners are expected to vote during their...www.observer-reporter.com
I am not sure how you approve a contract without anyone reviewing the contract first. The solicitor hasn't even reviewed a contract or terms. Seems shady that everything is hush hush with the contract at this point and approving it with no financial terms.News : WJPA 95.3 FM/1450AM – Music, Sports and News Radio – Washington, PA
