Hi guys,

Wondering if someone can shed a little light for me... I was in Windsor on the weekend and spent a little time listening to MPSCS. I'm just wondering how the site coverage works there. Obviously the main Detroit services are on their own site, and you have the Wayne Co simulcast site covering a large area but also the Northville site overlapping a lot of the same area. Which site do radios in this area (Livonia, Canton, and now the airport etc) usually hang out on? I noticed on the weekend that the Consortium Of Eastern Wayne site had very little traffic on it.. A little bit of Hamtramck and Canton and a few others... I take it this is a fill in site they occasionally roam to? I realize many of these groups are now encrypted but I'm just trying to understand if there are preferred sites etc etc. Thanks!

A lot of what you are asking depends on where each radio is, as just like with a cell phone, the radio will switch to the tower with the strongest signal, with few exceptions. The east Wayne system exists because that is what all the "pointes" use (Grosse Point Farms, Groose Point City, ect).

Livonia, Canton, Redford, Romulus, ect all use the Wayne CO Simulcast system as their home system (preferred site). However if they are getting a much better signal off of the Northville tower then that radio might switch and use that.

On top of all that, if a user of the Wayne CO simulcast site (lets say Huron Twp) leaves their area and goes to Royal Oak to pickup a prisoner, then they will likely affiliate with the Southfield site so for the time that radio is in that area you will hear Huron Twp traffic on the Southfield site.

Thanks for the info! My reception on the simulcast site was brutal.. So was hoping to hear some of the C4FM sites would have some regular action on them too.

Haha yah don't you just love simulcast sites. You would think that scanner manufactures would have found a way by now to eliminate the multipath issues that are such a huge pain for people who monitor simulcast sites. The Detroit (not Wayne CO) simulcast site is one of the worst for scanners.

As far as single tower sites for Wayne CO Simulcast.... I would try Northville, Southfield, and Flat Rock. Though reception of any given agency will be spotty on those, as once again the only time you will hear anything on those from users on the Wayne CO Sim on those sites will be if one of their radios happens to switch to one of them.
