You need to update whichever WinXX program you're running. That message indicates you're running an older version that is trying to use the now-discontinued "REST" web service.

For Lou or whoever maintains the Wiki:

The list of SOAP-enabled programs at RadioReference.com Web Service - The RadioReference Wiki does not list ARC780, so my assumption is that BuTel has not updated it. The list of Web Service 1.1 programs at RadioReference.com Web Service1.1 - The RadioReference Wiki also does not list ARC780, which might give some the impression that it works with SOAP.

It would be a large task for the Wiki maintainers to list all of the programs that don't work, so I'm not necessarily asking that ARC780 be added to the "it don't work anymore" page. However, maybe a catch-all note should be added which indicates that if your particular program isn't on the SOAP-enabled list, then there's no guarantee that it works.

In my opinion, this is a sad situation for older BuTel and other legacy programs. I can understand why BuTel might not want to expend programming effort to update legacy programs, but it does leave owners of older scanners in the dark. Obviously, my beef is not with RR, but with BuTel.

great, so I get back from vacation and discover we can no longer support the 6 996T scanners we have in the newsroom without getting new software/Windows equipment.
I run virtual PC/Windows 2000 and Freescan on a Mac laptop which has previously connected without any problems.
with these changes, I'm probably going to have to beg for money to get a Windows machine with software ( That's probably not going to happen in THIS economy) unless other versions of software can work with Virtual PC.
Even with the posting back in the spring, the timing of the change has definitely cause me (and a lot of premium subscribers it seems) unawares. And you can bet it's frustrating.

kjphotog,

Upgrade to version .9D of FreeSCAN and you are good to go. You can still use your existing files as well. Some people have been able to run it on their Macs using Parallels.

AFAIK ARC780 never worked with the RR web service, so it isn't listed anywhere. If it did work in the past please feel free to add it. I think it's a legacy program that was never updated in the recent past anyway.

Once again, I can't stress this enough - for the most part, the wiki can be updated by anyone. I've assembled a list of programs that do/don't work, but it's not so much of a stretch to think that I might have missed one or two.

Hi Don,

I upgraded Win96 and now I can access the database again. Thank you so much! My problem is that I am able to import conventional systems, but I can't seem to download any trunked systems. Most of my area is trunked so this is quite frustrating. Any other reports on this? Any suggestions for me?

Thanks a bunch for your hard work.

Well do you have any other choices??

You sure have !

For free it's call "Freescan"

For a few bucks (50) you can a "buffet" of "Proscan" in your PC to control as many Uniden's scanner has you want with a single licence ... ...

In the end we always have a choice - money talks !

I understand that Gommert is allowed to take some vacations like we all deserve some, but putting on the "road" brand new versions of ALL the software WITHOUT fully testing them ONE day before these DB change and leaving for vacations ... that's probably the worse part of running a "one man show" and leaving hundreds of UNSATISFIED customer behind.

I don't blame Lindsay and RR's admins one second for this as it's was known for a few months and other software providers react promptly, in time, with a reaction time in case of failure like for Win500.
