OK, tonite, I put all three of these freqs in my 396. First as Type 2 system. Heard nothing. Then as P25 system, 9600 baud, heard nothing.

I am ten miles east of the river with 900 MHz yagi, fed with hardline at about 75'. Not a peep.

If you get more info, let me know and I will try again.

ASP Forrest City Control Channel

tspainiv said:
I was downtown at the river on Monday and put in 866.17500 and could pick up the tower fine. This was at the riverfront. I didn't hear much traffic though, a little bit of Troop D dispatch and another one, not sure of it though.

Thomas & anyone--
I know most of you are Radio Shack guys and I've got the Uniden 796 but I think you told me once when I was setting up MPD that I needed to set my radio to Control Channel mode, turn off "trunk" except the Control Channel I wanted to receive and turn it to "trunk" "ON". I had the Ark. State Police set to "Trunk" "ON" on all the channels listed for Troop D in the RR Database. I've currently got 866.175 & 866.1875 set as "Trunk" "ON". The other Control Channels are set to "OFF". I'm STILL trying to pick them up. And more advice for me with this latest addition.
Thanks.

If you input just that 866.17500 frequency, do you get the control channel noise? Or is it quiet? If you get the control channel noise, just input that frequency only and set the scanner in control channel only mode on that frequency. And I can't remember on the uniden if you set it to ID SEARCH or ID SCAN.

But if you can't pick up the control channel, then you won't be able to hear them.

Not sure if it is possible to get this from Memphis but on the Burdette Tower in Troop C, the FCC just granted a license for 866.2750 for the Burdette Tower. It has a different FCC License than the other frequencies but is likely because it was granted at a later date. I assume there was too much traffic on that tower so they added another frequency to help with that?

I Do Get Control Channel Noise

Yes, I am getting Control Channel noise. That's why I'm assuming I'll be able to receive them once I figure everything else out. In the Uniden, You set the radio to ID Scan if you know the talk groups, and I'm using the the Arkansas talkgroups from the RR database. I HAVE heard control channel noise on 866.100 also. I'll try your confirmation of 866.175 ONLY for a few days and see what happens since you've actually heard REAL voice traffic when you were on the river. Will keep everyone posted. I get almost everything the State Police would get off Crittenden Sheriff so it's not an incredibly big deal. I just want to figure it out.
Thanks all.

Still Haven't Given Up Receiving ASP/West Memphis

Crittenden County ASP/Shell Lake

Update to my earlier messages. I picked up what I call control channel
noise on 866.175 last night on my Uniden 796D. Previously, I was
receiving it on 866.100. There's no indication on my screen that it is
receiving anything such as "P25" or "NFM" as is indicated when I'm
picking up P25 in Memphis. I'm set in Control Channel mode with
talkgroups from the RR database programmed. Someone on another board
suggested I turn off Control Channel mode. That's different than what
I've been told before by others. I recorded the "noise" I'm receiving
onto an audio cassette and once I get it converted to MP3 or WAV, I plan
on posting it so you guys so tell me what I'm hearing. I just KNOW I
should be able to pick up West Memphis ASP. I'm using an attic discone
and live near the old Mall of Memphis.
Thanks.

Ron, this might tickle your fancy, right now I am getting a 85% decode rate on Troop C's tower in Jonesboro from my house here in Collierville. The ducting must be in favor. The only talkgroup I have so far is 401 which is Troop C dispatch.

Just thought this was really cool. I was able to run Pro96Comm and decode the control channel since it's a 9600 baud. Really cool stuff. Just though I'd run that by everyone!

West Memphis Followup

Thomas--
I realize you use the Radio Shack and I use the Uniden 796D but thought you or someone might know the answer to this: I notice you found Jonesboro TG as 401. I had it entered as 00401. Would this make a difference in whether I receive or not? I just entered Forrest City as 601. I already had it entered as 00601. 00601 was giving me zero reception on this talkgroup. I'm going to see what happens. But if anyone has an answer, I'd like to hear it.
Thanks for your help as always.
Ron

With my scanner (Radioshack) it doesn't matter how you input the talkgroup. You can input it as 00401 or 401. When you input it as 401, it automatically adds the first two zeros. Also, I can't hear the control channel anymore this morning. I'll give a listen tonight and see if I can hear it again. It was control channel 866.5500. I could also get some of the other troop C towers but they were very hard to pick up.

Am listening to Troop C and Troop D dispatch off the Burdette tower from Munford as we speak. 866.5500 TG's 401 and 601. First time I have been able to recieve ASP since AWIN was implemented. Am listening on PRO2096, transmissions are very clear, no squelch tail. Have upgraded to ver.1.03, and love it!!
