What causes this phenomenon? And someone please explain how you get an entire department full of them? The department I am referring to shall remain unnamed but I am curious as to how this happens...

Man I hear them on the radio (which is waaaaayyyyy more than I should as they are on there for EEEEVVVERRRYYTHING) and all I can do is shake my head. Can't use proper radio discipline/terminology, they freak out on the most piss ant calls, One of em burned a brand new grass rig up and her brother ran the same truck off in a ravine on a grass fire. The list of accolades goes on but I will run out of space.

Bad luck!!

Sounds a little like the dept. where I live - in fear of fires. The chief's nifty Jeep with many leds everywhere burnt up not long ago when they were at a first responder call. It was sort of funny to hear him on the radio screaming for a truck to put out his fire.

They don't really need radios here, they scream loud enough to be heard without them.

Adreneline addicts.

That is not a joke. It is medically documented that some persons become addicted to their own adreneline and are thus constantly seeking another "rush".

Happens way to much in vollie services.

I work in a combo department and if any of us did a fraction of what they do (and get away with), we would be out so fast....

Hell I dont know. We never let them get near our town for mutual aid. Mysteriously they always get turned around by...somebody

Ha ha ha. It takes them so long because I'm sure he's out checking on disabled motorists and stuff and calling them into Okla. Co.

Usually they get on scene and (A) Get stuck, (B) Break something, (C) Talk on the radio, (D) All of the above. Heard him clear a call from presby not too long ago...was a grass fire and he was picking up one of their people that had rode the ambulance in. Didnt even give his other people enough time to get to the station and started the next town over for mutual aid. Another classic was requesting OHP to escort him to a fire that was already under control because his lights and siren were inop. Theres many more...
