Have a BCD996P2. There WERE channels programmed before this session, but they were deleted because I saw somewhere it was wise to click on delete other frequencies in scanner before uploading. Tried to upload a conventional system, I get a "critical error, invalid response code or insufficient resources, aborting channel programming" notice. 5 times now. A driver IS downloaded. I'm confused.

Not trying to sound too bad but the 1st rule of 2way or scanner programming READ RADIO 1st then make changes in the software then write back to the radio.
Now to trouble shooting
#1 Uniden 996p2 DRIVER
#2 Known good USB cable plugged into both Scanner and PC
#3 Open Device Manager does the scanner show up as a COMPORT?
#4 If so use that COMPORT # in the software.
#5 If it fails start at #1 again.

The BCD325P2 and BCD996P2 require the installation of a Uniden USB driver. Is that the one you downloaded? Go to the Scanner tab, Control Scanner, COM Port Setup, and Start Auto. Close the box and Upload Programming again.

The BCD325P2 and BCD996P2 require the installation of a Uniden USB driver. Is that the one you downloaded? Go to the Scanner tab, Control Scanner, COM Port Setup, and Start Auto. Close the box and Upload Programming again.
Using the Auto function in FreeSCAN to identify the port is important. When the port selected manually is incorrect, FreeSCAN will give you that 'insufficient resources' error message. You'll sometimes get that if you had just used FreeSCAN for a different model. If its last function was to load a different model, then it may not correctly recognize the current scanner you are trying to load. The Auto function both locates the correct port, as well as tells FreeSCAN what product is now corrected.

Also, if you plug the USB cable into a different port that was used previously, Windows may assign a different Com port number, which throws FreeSCAN a loop. Again, using the Auto function avoids problems like this.
