when it comes down to it, I don't believe I actually have only one favorite. Right now I'm using the following:

3 R/S Pro 2042's (my milair workhorses)
2 R/S Pro 2055's
1 R/S Pro 433
1 R/S Pro 2096
1 Uniden 996T
1 Uniden BCT 15X
1 GRE PSR-600
1 R/S Pro 97
1 R/S Pro-106
1 Uniden 364XT

They all have their good and not-so-good traits.

I like my Uniden 396T, I'll probably get the XT soon. The quality is just so much better than a Radio Shack special. Uniden gives you all the accessories (PC Cable, belt clip) and adapters AND batteries! Radio Shack makes you buy allot of that separately. The Uniden features are superior, like VHF,UHF P25 trunking tables being set automatically. The construction and materials used is better too.

Two Uniden BCT15X's in the shack + a bunch of BC300 series scanners spread out throughout the house.

I prefer Uniden, but I also have Radio Shack -- each has its strengths. Pretty soon I'll be needing TDMA capability and I'll be grateful to whomever provides that feature!

I have a strong preference for GRE/RadioShack scanners as I find them vastly superior when it comes to audio quality (both analog and digital decoding), sensitivity and ergonomics.

I know this is a little late but..

No, the title said USE. Where did you come up with PREFER??? So its still a very flawed poll..

The title of the actual poll itself reads: "What brand scanner do YOU prefer/use?" That is where the word "prefer" comes from and is apparently what the OP wants the voters to consider when they vote. It would have been less confusing if the thread title matched the poll title, but it's an interesting poll nevertheless. :)

GRE, Uniden, and RS. I currently have one of each. Sadly my PSR 500 was lost to theft two years ago and I've yet to replace it.

I use a PSR-800 for my scanning needs. But I use an SDR for very low frequency scanning for interesting things (Numbers stations, uvb76, etc etc)

I have both Uniden and GRE scanners but I must say Uniden is my preferred brand. Took me a while to figure out the BCT15X but now that I have it's a fantastic radio!

That's not to say I've ever had any complaints about my PSR-500; I just like Uniden a little better. I love my PSR-500 as well!

Kind of a mix. 3 Uniden, 4 Radio Shack , 3 GRE

Favorite right now has to be the 396xt, the Home Patrol is ok, but doesn't do all that I want.

For finding and storing frequencies, the Gre PSR 500 and 600 work the best for my needs
Pair of RS Pro 94's that I hate to part with, because they have been so dependable.
Don't use the Pro 39 much, passed the 106 and the PSR-800 on to my daughter
