I was getting an upgrade from the rubber duck included of the Alinco DJ500T and noticed the SMA threads seem a little longer than the regular SMA female antennas.

It would appear to be similar to the Vertex variety of SMA, does anyone know what type it is for sure before I buy the antenna? Also any recommendations for antennas that will work that are cheaper than the Smiley Antenna would be nice. Adds up to a bit with the shipping they charge.

It's a standard SMA, but yeah there are some which the antenna connector is deeper than others. There are third-party antennas with deeper threads.

I wish I could find it, but I know I've seen a page somewhere talking about this. But I googled and I'm seeing the standard stuff on Amazon works with it, example:

https://www.amazon.com/review/R2DD0...hannel=detail-glance&nodeID=1077068&store=car

And the threads don't look all that deep on it. I'd say get one of the Nagoyas and see how deep you have to thread it before it seems to be working. I have one radio that I have trouble with antennas and one of them is only half a turn past reception so I don't use that combination, others are fine. I'd say if you get a full turn on it once it seems to be making contact you're in good shape.

BTW, lots of people seem worried about counterfeits from Amazon. Get it Prime and from the right listing and you'll be fine. I have several from this listing (717, 771, 810), all are just fine. https://www.amazon.com/Authentic-NA-771-15-6-Inch-SMA-Female-BaoFeng/dp/B00KC4PWQQ/

I already have a few regular Nagoya antennas from my Baofeng I used previously and they didn't work that well on the Alinco and it got hot a lot quicker. Probably just wont even bother with it since I don't do ham as much these days. Pretty Decent commercial duck though.
