• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What was your first CB radio?

Oh man - Realistic-TRC-152 and you just brought tears to my eyes.

Picture it - a teenager, hooked on CB, with a back-of-the-set whip antenna in my bedroom (because my mom wouldn't let me install a proper base antenna), where everyone I talked to laughed about how "down in the grass" I always was, but I was the "Nightrider" and it was a big part of my teen years.

Thanks for taking me back.

Don't complain! When I got my new Comsat 25 from Lafayette Radio I had no antenna, so I just threw a wire out the window! I was still able to hit quite a few of the locals in my neighborhood, since there were so many CB operators within a 10 block radius of my 10-20! ;)

My first CB was a LLoyd's 3 Channel walkie talkie that actually worked very well, a lot better than the Heathkit "Lunchbox" junker I bought later on. My dad got me a Johnson Messenger 124 through his store, and I had a bunch of different mikes on it, with the best sounding one being a Turner Sidekick. I bought a 300 watt linear in 1972, and would stay home from school to talk skip. I got out of CB for a while, and then bought a Pace 8010 mobile from Olson Electronics in Las Vegas. It didn't last very long in my truck due to the heat, and I added a base unit, a Pierce Simpson, can't remember what model, but it was a 40 channel AM one. It got hit by a direct lightning strike soon after I bought it, and got out of CB for about 3 years, then bought a Uniden Washington, which proved almost useless at my present location due to the huge amount of trucks running big power on nearby highway.

Mine was a realistic navaho trc-30a 23 channel base, within a year i had several other radios also. When i was a kid radio shack was a magical place and took a lot of my dads hard earned cash.

Code:
http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/222/c/1/realistic_trc_473_cb_radio_by_profingerboarder-d5ajlil.jpg

But you see the "9" in this DOESNT HAVE ITS BOTTOM PART?? -- Mine did have full #s on #6,7 and 9
Could you have had the Realistic TRC 427?

CB License Circa 1966

Has anyone got a clean copy of a CB License issued around mid 1960s or so that they could carefully scan and send to me? I want to photoshop a replica of my KBL-3423 license.

In 1965 my Mom and Dad traded a little used Sears consol AM/FM record player stereo from our basement bar for it from a TV shop in Chester, PA the owner most likely got the " better" deal back then

8 channel, tunable rx, pretty basic rig, A few months later doing my PT job I was able to get a Polycomm 23 ch rig quite the nice one back then.

KMG-2796

in those days everybody used callsigns, pretty proper QSL cards Radio Shack, Lafayette stores were a big treat to go to. CB "Jamborees" were big events

My first radio was a side mic Cobra 148 GTL my father bought some time in the 80's and then gave me when I was in elementary school in the early 90's.

I still have it, use it whenever I get a chance to drive my 67 Ford F100, and love it!

It always brings back memories of riding around all the summers off from school in my fathers old Mack superliner driving all over North America.
