Is that possibly typo'd?
-
85412 is most likely is a typo by the OP....

The OP lists his location as South East Phoenix, and zip 85142 is Queen Creek AZ..... which is southeast of Phoenix.......... USPS recognizes it however Sentinel does not recognize 85142 either.

Just as a note, when I first got my SDS100 I tried entering my zipcode (85120) and it also said out of range. 85120 is the correct zipcode since my mail gets delivered, but for whatever reason the scanner fails to recognize it... I did update the database before trying the zipcode feature, but never did get it to work. I programmed the scanner by setting up my own favorite lists and haven't tried since.

I would suggest if the O/P wants to use the zip code feature for the San Tan Valley AZ to use a Mesa AZ zip code. It would behoove him to make a favorites list in sentinel since this area has multiple agencies on multiple systems (TOPAZ, RWC, Maricopa CO P25, Pinal CO P25, AZWINS to name a few) on multiple sites with a "boat load" of talk groups. Also go to the Arizona Forum and ask there are some "good guys" that can point him in the right direction.

Let Joe Bearcat know. The Zip code table will need to be updated.

FWIW - there are no 85xxx in the entire file.

If you care to edit :

The file is in your \Program Files (x86)\Uniden\BCDx36HP Sentinel
File is Ziplistus.txt - editable with any text editor.

Out of curiosity, when was the last firmware update? As cities and towns grow, zip codes do change.

Probably a database update versus firmware. (y)

I must be doing something fundamentally wrong because I entered the zip and coordinates and still get out of range when I send the update to the scanner.

The Zipcode file is separate from the database. It will require an update to Sentinel. It has been done before a few times.
That is interesting. I figured it would part of the typical database updates.

What version of the firmware do you have? I tried it on my SDS200 as well as my HomePatrol and 85142 works fine. 85412 does report out of range as expected.

On my SDS200, I have Main 1.10.00 and Sub 1.02.01. 85142 shows out of range.

Mine also reports out of range on 85142 - Sentinel is 2.02 ver 1.
Mine fails on both versions of Sentinel. To check - try an "Add channels on range using Zip".
