Hi everybody. I was just wondering if I should program all of the sites in the surrounding counties or only program one site for each system? I'm at the Ohio/West Virginia line so there's both MARCS and SIRN and I'm not sure if I should program every site in the area or just my county. Thanks for reading.

You know a Simulcast System with multple site/towers looks like one big site... You cant single out individual sites/towers from it...
I know. That isn't what I meant. On all of the counties on the Ohio side for MARCS, I only have the Washington County site (or cell if that's what ya want to call it) but for Wood County WV, I have the Parkersburg, Vienna, Rockport, Belleville, Statewide Portable Site, and WVRRT Portable Site all programmed in and I wasn't sure if that was the best way to have them set up if I went outside of Washington County with it.

and the old line of "the more you try and listen to, the less you will hear", comes into play.
at home i have many radios, when i go out i have at least 2 scanners and the wife has her's.
with more radios you can hear more.

I don't think I can afford that many though.

If different System's... Different Fav Lists...
No I have each trunked system in its own List. I have it set up like this:
List 0:
System 0: Washington County/System 1: Ohio MARS-IP (84)
List 1:
System 0: Noble County/System 1: Ohio MARCS-IP (61)
List 2:
System 0: Athens County/System 1: Ohio MARCS-IP (05)
List 3:
System 0: Morgan County/System 1: Ohio MARCS-IP (58)
List 4:
System 0: Monroe County/System 1: Ohio MARCS-IP (56)
List 5:
System 0: Wood County/System 1: WV SIRN (54)

I prefer all my sites in one system, one FL...

However I do arrange them in certain order and use site hold / QK to only scan what I want - when I want, at any time usually within a second. It's the best way to efficiently use the programming IMO

Easier to Read BCD436/536HP Digital Scanner Manual Order
Easier to Read BCD436/536HP Digital Scanner Manual Quick Keys
Easier to Read BCD436/536HP Digital Scanner Manual Holds

Having different Systems with different Control channels running at the same time in a fav list will slow the scan speed...
If you are only running one System at a time thats different...

So most of the time, I would only have List 1 (Washington County conventional and MARCS) enabled for scan. I have the other counties only for mutual aid incidents. So, for example, Reno Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire earlier today, and the dispatcher called Wood County to have Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department respond for automatic mutual aid. That's when I would enable List 5 (Wood County conventional and SIRN) for scan. (By the way, that incident turned out to be a false alarm and Williamstown was canceled before they got into our county.)

In your case if only monitoring one System at a time... Using Quick Key's on the sites would work too...

I also have quick keys assigned to all my Lists and Systems, but I'm still trying to get used to that th

Well, I tried that just now and it just beeped at me like it was an invalid number or something. I pushed 5
You do have fav list quick key numbers assigned correct...
Yes, but I pressed 5 and E/yes and it beeped at me as if it were an invalid number or something. I usually go into Menu>Set Scan Selection>Select Lists to Monitor>Favorites 5: On. And that's how I enable/disable my Lists until I learn how to use these quick keys.
