I guess the only way to find out what might be the issue is call Whistler the company. But then you still might not get the full truth and the correct answer. Thanks for the links.

Maybe I will go back to buying a new BCD996P2
If you haven't already, they're $389 new on Walmart right now. They're $423 on Amazon. Even the used ones on Ebay are selling for that, or more

UNIDEN BASE-MOBILE DIGITAL SCANNER Robot or human?

I saw someone selling them new in box on Ebay a year or two ago in the $295-$330 range. Wish I nabbed one but apparently they ran out

I hate my TRX-2 more and more every day. The only things it was ever good at was smart-zone trunking systems, conventional digital channels and phase 1 systems without simulcast. It's awful on analog channels due to the horrendous squelch problem and phase 2 systems are useless unless your in a sweet spot between sites.

Yeah I am bidding on one that looks really new and nice and max bid it at 550.00. I just want to make sure its a USA model. See how it goes.

Look pretty clean. I won't pay over 550.00. If it goes higher and people just bid it up then o well. My SDS-200 works great. Just want a TRX-2 for NXDN and DMR stuff. Had one in the past. Seem to work pretty good but every radio has its plus and minus area. My BCD996P2 was horrible on Phase II TDMA Simulacasting. I think the only great scanner so far is the SDS-100 and 200 and plus been getting firmware upgrades lately too. So Uniden is starting to keep working on their chip and updating and fine tuning the radios again since we lost UpMan a few years ago. Bummer. He was always ontop of these radios at Uniden. Miss that guy a lot for the greater good for whats left of the scanner industry.

Crazy. I put a good bid on it at 550.00 and forgot about it and it sold at 560.00 HAHA> I guess it was not meant to be. Saved me from spending 600 bucks.

I would never pay that money for a product that marginally performs as advertised. Bite the bullet and get the Uniden SDS or use a computer with an SDR. I had hope that Whistler was going to fix the problems with the TRX-2 but they have not. They would truly have a winner if they would upgrade this scanner with I/Q demodulation for simulcast systems and fix the squelch problems on analog conventional.

Yeah I completely hear you. This is why I never bought a new one and sold the one I had before. The SDS-200 just perform flawless. But I do tell you the Unication G-5 is my GO TO all the time even though its only a dual band. Just a great pager and P25 Trunking receiver for sure.

How does the G-5 do in heavy RF environments? I noticed my SDS100 being heavily de-sensed near cell towers in my area. I'm using a Harris XG-75Pe now when mobile, no problems with de-sense now. Sorry to stray off topic.

Second your assessment of the Unication G-5😀

Not sure re heavy RF environments but my G-5 is more sensitive than my SDS100. The G-5 will receive/decode P25 systems with its little stubby antenna that my SDS100 doesn't.

Also great color screen, excellent audio and battery life and built like a tank.

The Uniden SDS line has far more problems than the TRX series. Airband reception alone on the SDS is a complete joke. The TRX series do perform as described and the only negative is poor simulcast reception which doesn't affect everyone. One has to mess constantly with filters to even get decent performance out of analog reception with the SDS line and don't forget the numerous faults with the scanners - cold solder joints, failing displays and swelling batteries to name a few.

I'm sick and tired of all the baseless bashing of the Whistler digital scanners. I use them exclusively for digital trunking and airband/ham monitoring and they perform very well when programmed and operated correctly. They beat the 325P2/996P2/436/536/SDS in digital decoding of P25/DMR/NXDN transmissions and are much more flexible in operation compared with the "three button mess" and quick-key abomination that plagues the Uniden digital scanners.
