I have a Whistler 1010. I began life as a scanner techie at the age of 10 with a Tennelec my dad purchased in 1974, (with the old 0010 codes deal.) I am not happy with the Whistler. It could be I live in a rural area, and am so not happy with the supposed 'rural' antenna I got from Amazon.(I live in an Apartment now due to being handicapped) I just bought the Whistler new. One night it began picking up a weather radio station in the next county, and we had thunderstorms a couple hours later. I am disappointed nothing else has ever came in. I'm a Bearcat/Uniden fan. I bought the Whistler due to budget constraints. Am I missing something? I mean, I had a good rural antenna when I lived in a different rural apartment 10 years ago, and I picked up 3 counties away. Is it the antenna, the scanner, or both? Or the area?

Welcome.
One of the first mistakes new members make when asking for help, is where do you live, and what do you want to monitor. We would like to help, but we're not mind readers. :)
So, let us know. (y)

Thanks for the welcome. Usual police, fire, etc. Local stuff. I live in a very small, rural village in far southeastern Illinois. The Northern end of Gallatin County. The oddity is my other half's 'borrowed' Realistic Pro-2028 brings in everything in Posey County, Indiana! It picks up Harrisburg and Saline County, which the Whistler should. It picks up Hardin County to the south, even the Lifeflight. I'm not sure it's a rural scanner. I don't know.

Is Saline county programmed into the 1010?
Where is the squelch knob set? Try setting the squelch where the noise just stops.
You might need a bigger/better antenna for the radio, rather than the rubber duck that came with it.
I would presume that you are using the telescoping antenna that the 2028 has. Try it on the 1010 .
Since I don't live in the area, that's about all I can help with.
