Hi yall I am brand new to scanning. Question on Win95. On the Channels tab. In the bottom right hand section there is a box that is titled Alpha Tag-ID-and lock out. It has 19 rows. With DEC, HEX, AFS and clear trunk info surrounding it. What does this function do. I know this is related to the trunk Ids. But how exactly.

The "clear trunk info" button clears out EVERYTHING in those fields. All talkgroup IDs, alpha tags, and lock-out fields are erased.

This is where you enter talkgroups ID's if the system you are monitoring is trunked (Motorola/EDACS). The 0-4 buttons are used to select each individual talkgroup. The boxes to the right of those turn "ON" if checked, "OFF" if not, each sub-bank of talkgroups. "Alpha-Tag" refers to the text that will show up on your screen for each talkgroup instead of the talkgroup number (easier to figure out who you are listening to!). ID is the actual talkgroup ID. LOCKOUT is whether or not you wish to hear that particular ID while running in CLOSED mode. Clear as mud?

You got it! :D

It's a whole new world than "conventional" type scanning where all you have to do is put in the frequencies.

Enjoy!

Yup. With a trunked system, fire tac 1 may be on one freq, then on a totally different one later. Same with all the other services on that trunked system!

Therefore, we identify the Talk Group ID for the service, say 12345 is police 1 and 12346 is fire tac 1. We want to assign the GroupID 12345 with the text tag "PD 1" or whatever you wish, then when PD talks on station 1, regardless of the frequency, then the text tag "PD 1" comes up and we know who is talking!

Tip of the day: If you assign talk group ID with text tags, and close the bank (see the check box beside 'Closed' above the bank listing), then all traffic, EXCEPT for those with Group IDs assigned will be locked out!!

This is how I lock out crap I dont want to hear, like operations talking about trash pickup and junk.

See my post in this forum "Roanoke trunking info I have thus far..." or something like that. Theres a file attachment for WIN95 for Roanoke, VA you can look at to see how it all works for me.

Ill try to help the best I can.

So far, I have had *NO* problems what so ever with WIN95 software!! And its free!

Anyway, HTH!
Andrew

BTW, Ill attache it to this too...
