Win97 Question

Greetings,

I use Win97 and had a question on the CT/DC column. I understand that it's the tone column and generally it's a number 120.45 for example. What happens if the tone is like D503N? Do I just enter D503N in the space provided?

What do I choose in the Rx Mode? AM/FM/EDACS/CT/DC/LTR?

For now I have it selected as DC and only entered 351 instead of D351 since I can only put 3 characters.

PRO-97 tone programming

The scanner will only understand the values listed. The only exception is when "0.0" is entered, the scanner interprets that as 'search' mode.

What do I choose in the Rx Mode? AM/FM/EDACS/CT/DC/LTR?

Tones are not supported in AM mode. EDACS, LTR & MO modes are trunking modes. When FM mode is selected, the scanner will not decode tones. That leaves DC or CT. Note that if you are trying to program an NAC (P25) code, the PRO-97 can not decode it (or decode the audio on such a channel).

If the D of D351 means DC, you did the correct thing. If not, it won't work. Can you tell us the agency/channel you are trying to program? A link to it in the DB here would be great.

There is no listing in the RadioReference DB for 155.8475 in Massachussetts so I don't know where you got the information and therefore its accuracy.

Oh no it's not MA it's for Maine - boothbay ambulance. I got the sheet from one of the senior EMT. It is listed as follows:

RX Freq = 158.8275 (sorry i listed it in the previous post as 155.8475)
TX Freq = 150.9950

RX PL = D351
TX PL = D351

Hope that clarifies the situation.

Well, those are the right frequencies for Boothbay Regional Ambulance, according to the FCC, and 351 is a proper DPL tone code, so by all accounts, it ought to work.

I'm not sure what kind of device you're programming, but my scanner can be set to search for the code automatically. Neat-o feature.

I use a Pro-97 and have programmed both RX and TX frequency and used DC mode of 351(in Win97).

The link you have, where is the tone 351 listed? I see only the frequency. The sheet that the EMT gave me has both RX and TX PL listed as D351

Squelch tones aren't listed in the FCC's DB. I'm not even sure the FCC cares what tone you use, do they? Do tones used have to be registered with the FCC?

Anyways, I also have the Pro97. Try the Code Search, and see what you come up with.

To program a channel for CTCSS or DCS search:
1. In Manual mode, select the channel by entering the bank number and channel number then press MAN to advance to the channel.
Note: You may also change banks by pressing FUNC then or (each time) and then change channels by pressing or .
2. Press MODE until you set the channel to CT Code Search or DC Code Search in the bottom of the display. Usually, but not always, VHF channels will use CTCSS and UHF channels will use DCS. If you leave the channel at this 'Search' setting, the scanner will display the first code (if) found when you do not program a code

In scan mode you can store the tone code of the frequency by pressing ENT while viewing the channel . Code Stored briefly appears in the display.
