Sustainability study finally awarded
Was wondering what was going on with this, took a look and the contract was only awarded on April 8th.
Not really speedy. Of course it's likely impossible to tell if this was a delay in getting firms lined up, negotiation over price, or perhaps just a matter of the state freeing up the funds. Of course, it could be something else entirely, who knows.
Only 4 firms responded to the RFP:
• Tusa Consulting (winner winner, evening poultry meal)
• DVA Consulting
• Mission Critical Partners
• Televate
2 of the 4 have extremely low internet presence, which doesn't really engender confidence.
Tusa has done some work with Washington County, so they at least have some exposure to the area.
LR Kimball did not submit a bid - they did engineering work for the initial rollout and you'll see their name on the coverage maps from the state. Interesting that they didn't want to continue participating.
Also of note, some of the state folks that were highly aligned and involved with WISCOM are no longer employed by the state. Perhaps new blood will be a factor in getting the system off the canvas, or it could be a death blow.
In any case, it appears that any report from the consultants will be be forthcoming later than originally planned. In reading the regional minutes, there is some amount of anticipation (waiting) for this report, so hurry up and wait seems to be the order of the day.
Other:
Kenosha Sheriff, which runs P25 conventional repeaters, has never been on a scan group - but they are on the Kenosha Scan group now, along with Kenosha county fire. The sheriff traffic sounds very good, while fire traffic is still overdriven, someone needs to back down the audio gain on the receiver.
