Yep, the Greenfield 800 site is up. Sounds great, full signal by St Lukes Milwaukee 27th & Oklahoma. Just 2 freqs right now 853.475 Control & 853.975 Voice. Just a few cops testing on RCALL 21 & 24. The City of Greenfield TRS still has all it's freqs.

Question for Outagamie county. Seems like the majority of activity has been migrated over from VHF but on that note:
With the majority of WISCOM being kept on VHF for the P25 project, how many counties are going for a 800 base?
For sites like Greenfield (and supposedly now Outagamie), are roaming/state units going to a dual band (i.e. APX radio) just to talk with these few counties?

From what I have seen with my own eyes and talked to some users they are using APX radios. I am not sure if they are the 7000 or 6000 series.
Many have choosen to go with xts2500's though and I have been told some patches to VHF are open.
I can tell you this though my travel talkgroup came across better south of De Pere in Outagamie from a county across the state than one of there own.
I know some agencies are still carrying both radios as I have heard it was a slow migration. Mind you that was from someone who is not to radio literate.

Any idea how many other counties are likely to build a separate 800 type trunk beyond the default wiscom system? Seems like a slight step backwards if the wiscom directive is to make a statewide system but individual counties build their own isolated trunk system.
I actually have a xts2500 coming from Waupaca county, and was able to add receive only channels for outagamie for the occasional listening. But with the changeover here and the general progression of wsicom I'll probably start hunting for a handheld digital scanner. The new BCD436HP looks appealing; will wait and see what the crowd says after release.

It's not really a step backwards. There are only so many frequency pairs available on VHF for WISCOM, most of which are used by the core system. By building these "isolated" 700/800 systems they are able to provide the level of coverage in the areas needed, something that the core WISCOM VHF sites don't necessarily do as they were built for mobile coverage.
These new systems are also not completely isolated as you state. To my knowledge every one of them are being built with the plan to provide system level connectivity to the core WISCOM system. All talkgroup ranges and radio ID's are following the State plan used on WISCOM. Once these system level links are established it functions essentially as one large system.

I see what you mean on the backwards part. I knew that would allow the coverage needed, although I'm still curious on why 800 was picked for up here. I think the comparison between VHF and 800 still favors VHF in the more remote areas, such as around the fringe of county towers. I don't know all the county towers here, but I'm fairly skeptical the existing towers now on 800 can push far enough out to reach the county boundaries for mobile units. Maybe that is where the dual system comes in where mobile units with default to VHF instead of 800 past a certain point?

I'm hearing Greenfield PD Dispatch today on 41401. Appears to be a patch of 32784 from the City of Greenfield system. Sounds very good from Hales Corners.
Also hearing radio service testing on 41402. Not hearing this traffic on the city's system.
I found another voice frequency in use on the Greenfield 800 WISCOM site, 857.9875. This is a frequency from the city's system, so they must be transitioning freqs over.
