SPD2 was patched to WISCOM so that some of the officers could start using WISCOM in areas that the conventional radio system didn't cover...until the full migration happens.

TG 158 heard this morning off Holcombe and Meteor towers with rebroadcast of WSP Spooner Post. Base to Cars sounded great however cars calling in were not very good. Don't get enough chance to listen to VHF to know if it is that way on VHF as well?

TG 157 heard as well with a short call out to "Spooner Radio." That was heard off Meteor tower.

This is the first I've heard of anything related to Spooner Post on WISCOM.

The patch appears to have been put up sometime yesterday as I was hearing it on my way home last night. TG 151 was also active on Red Cliff and Mellen.

Over the air on analog the cars are very clear as normal. It appears to be some function of the patch that is introducing the noise onto the talkgroup.

I'm not hearing Spooner Post to cars on TG 158 at all...I do hear all the cars though...even from areas that the VHF wasn't picking up.

Spooner post using TG 157 with some cars responding on it. I'm guessing DB can be updated as 157 Spooner Post and TG 158 Rebroadcast of their VHF channel.

They're not pretty, but they work. Analog to Digital patches are like that.

And i`ve heard digital-to-analog as well, that sounds really good :), personally i like that better than analog-to digital, digital rebroadcast on analog sounds REALLY good, doing the analog rebroadcast on digital thingy is auful IMO. N9NRA

Just wonderin`, you happen to know just when they look to be totally on WISCOM? And also curiously, what`ll happen to the conventional channels once they do the migration? Thanx! N9NRA

In the current draft Interoperability Council Meeting minutes from 8/25, they mentioned that the Elroy and Wonewoc sites (Juneau county) are now live. Anyone able to confirm that and what the site freqs might be. thanks

I can't recall which sites the state owns in Juneau Co but the Wonewoc and Elroy sites are probably part of the Juneau Co Simulcast "site" that was added to the site list on 8/22 (Juneau Co Simulcast Site Details (Wisconsin Interoperable System for Communications (WISCOM))).

I can confirm that law enforcement in Juneau Co appears to have switched over to WISCOM as of Labor Day weekend. Their JULAW1 talkgroup has been active on the Ridgeville site. My HomePatrol is not able to reliably decode their simulcast system.

There is now a 6 site simulcast VHF WISCOM cell operational in Juneau County. I'm not sure how many users have migrated over yet, but the RF portion is there.

Harrington Beach State Park

The Harrington Beach tower is going up near the Park's main entrance.

WSP is no longer using WISCOM for the time being. For about 6 weeks, it'll be down intermittently while they do upgrades. It has been confirmed Deforest, Tomah, and Fond Du Lac Posts back on VHF

Hearing these on WISCOM but all are VHF rebroadcast. Eau Claire Post running an air detail on VHF. Wausau Post on VHF. Nothing heard for Spooner Post.

WISCOM "launched" early May, 2012.

Ouch.

The rumor mill is really in high gear on this one. I have some awesome ocean-front property in Utah for you guys to buy.

Not sure how to parse this comment - are you saying you're hearing rumors outside of RR, or are you commenting on some of the recent posts in this thread? Your second sentence seems to indicate the latter, but I'm not sure.

In case this was directed at me - I was only commenting on the fact that WISCOM "launched" more than 2 years ago, and the supposed anchor tenant is still not using the system on a regular basis, and in fact is postponing use for another 6 weeks (which I'm guessing is a minimum). Overall, there appears to be precious little usage outside of isolated pockets - that's an observation from my listening plus what I read here - I certainly don't roam the state freely on a regular basis.

But let's focus the radio side and push the system politics off to the side for the moment.

I saw that a simulcast system was added to WISCOM recently - Juneau county. This almost always means CPQSK modulation will be used. Yes, there are some vendors (EF Johnson) who say they support C4FM with simulcast transmission, but a) it's rare and b) I haven't heard of any installations that use it yet.

So let's assume (yes, I know) that they're using CPQSK for the Juneau portion of the system. That means they'd have to get every mobile and portable re-programmed from C4FM receive to CPQSK receive - it can't be done over-the-air (OTAR) Given the nature of having to do this to a fairly large number of cruisers, I can see the six week timeframe being reasonable - troopers from the old D1 and D5 territories, perhaps even D4 would need the work done. I'm also unsure as to the impacts to the rest of the system - it's not clear that you can have a mix of C4FM and CPQSK in a wide-area system like this one.

This is pure speculation on my part, to be clear. Something entirely different could be going on. Perhaps there are more infrastructure changes, maybe the simulcasting still needs work and they're removing the Juneau system from the mobiles and portables.

I wouldn't mind understanding why the Juneau system was made simulcast - were there specific issues in the region, or is it a test being done in a fairly low-usage part of the state? Will there be more simulcast systems set up?

CPQSK/simulcast isn't great for most scanner listeners - if there's more coming, that will be disappointing to many here.
