Wisconsin DOC TRS

The Wisconsin Dept. of Corrections has an application before the FCC to modify their current trunking sites across the state to Project 25 modulation. The pending application can be seen on the FCC Web site. Likewise, there will be some significant changes to the frequencies in use once Nextel rebanding begins.

It appears that DOC has adopted DOA's methodology of getting around the budget--get Temporary Authority from the Governor's office and use DOA's special purchasing authorities ...

It's also disappointing to see that they're not attempting to consolidate with the statewide TRS plan. The FCC ULS contact for this action is the frequency coordinator for all state agencies, so I guess that's that. Probably too far down the road. On the other hand, perhaps they're thinking of using the DOC systems as part of that? Nah, that would make too much sense ...

Now I know why I don't work for the State any more ... there are lots of really good people still there, but when politics gets in the way of technology ... argh.

Winnebago Mental Health

Does the latest addition to the trunked radio system database mean, the P25 TRS at Winnebago is active?

The existing system, http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=4332 uses (used?) the exact same frequencies as the newly licensed and planned P25 system, so I'd be cautious in the submission of control channel information--is it P25 or just the control channel for the existing system? If so, the existing system should be updated with the CC. It may be interesting to see how they migrate.
