Anyone in Beckley area with a digital scanner who could check for an active control channel of a new site?
The control channel would be on one of the frequencies below OR on a frequency between 454-455 mhz.
452.1000
453.5250
460.6375
460.6875
461.6375
462.1125
This is for a site right int he center of Beckley.
If active, the control channel would likely report RFSS 2, Site ID 031.
Thanks
Mike
Mike there's a chance I might be down in the Beckley area tomorrow evening and if no one gets a chance to check for you before then I'll let you know something tomorrow night.

Hi Bert. Yes, Glen Jean is up. It actually has been up since June -- Jeff (wvscanner) reported of its existence back then. But we didn't know exactly where hte site was. He just knew that there was an active site on a certain frequency claiming to be site 2-037.

Chad,
IF you do the Glen Jean it is 454.050. I'm not sure how well it covers in Beckley even on 19 by the Mall if you leave off that road to a side road you will loose the freq. Another spot that will happen as well is the Go Mart on Maple Fork if you go more then 1/2 mile down the road away from 19 you loose the freq. But at GoMart the cc comes in strong.
I did not see what the submitter sent. I did a sweep thru the freq. and did not hit on anything. I have seen them do this before when a site goes live it will run during the day for a few days and off during the night till it up all the way. Even running a lower power during these part of the phase. I will try to do a sweep every day for the next few days. I usually do one weekly.
<snip>
I just ran these thru the scanner and did a sweep on the freq. found not new sites. However, I have been getting someone on tg 5180. I have not got enough traffic to figure who is using it other to check to see how well it works. I hope this helps.
I have to much in priority with work for tomorrow. I will bring all scanner gear with me to work Monday or Tuesday and run a scan up there. With that I should get Ansted and better check with Glen Jean.
Yes Flat Top would be better. This tower is just on the other side of the ridge of Winter Place 1/4 mile. I never could understand why it was FCC label as Beckley when it about 17 miles south of BeckleyJeff,
Thank you. Yes that helps. I updated the site neighbors for those sites you listed which didn't have the most up to date info.
I also changed "Beckley" to "Flat Top" -- since you referenced it as such, and apparently locals do as well. Plus, since there will be another Beckley online at some point I had wondered how we would differentiate.
If you agree that Flat Top is the appropriate name for the current Beckley site, then great. If not, you can change it back.
Appreciate the update. Looks like you're in a real nice location.
One note -- I know you said Glen Jean is weak -- keep an eye out on a day when it is coming in better though. In your original report from June it had reported a site neighbor of 027 as well. And we don't know what 027 is. And it might not have shown up in your monitoring tonight because of the weak signal. If it does show up in future ones, please get the frequency associated with site neighbor 027. I think you made note before that you suspected that 027 was White Sulphur Springs [likely based upon the same WVIRP doc i have], but knowing the frequency on that site neighbor would etch it in stone and allow us to add it to the DB even if we didn't monitor White Sulfur SPrings directly.
