To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I recently purchased a XPR 3500 HT and am having difficulty with the pc recognizing the programming cable. I have successfully programmed XPR 7500 HTs. I have tried the cable on multiple computers and they are both running MOTOTRBO CPS 13.0 And I have CPS 2.0 installed. I believe it has to do with the drivers for the cable, as noted in the screenshot below.

Any ideas on where I should look?

sure.

right click on that device, under "Driver" tab -> and see what driver is loaded.

You say you have programmed 7500HTs, but have you successfully programmed any 3500s with that cable on any computer, or is the 3500 & cable new to you?

There can be internal conflicts with the IP address of the radio vs. your own Network. Try unplugging your network, turn off WiFi, and reboot your PC with the programming cable plugged in & the radio turned on.

Hi my Friend
You should have no problems trying to read your XPR3500, if you say you can read an XPR7550 without problems!
What I imagine is that since the two programming cables are different between the two models and the programming cable of the XPR7550 works, then it must be a problem with your programming cable of your XPR3500 radio.
Yesterday I read and I programmed an XPR7550e and an XPR3500e, without problems, that is, the same driver that is installed from the first installation of the Motorola CPS, is the same for the two radios and more models of the Mototrbo line

Best Regards

I reinstalled CPS, and now the cable for the 3550 is showing as a COM port, and won't take the Motorola driver

I think you are using a cable that is not the correct one, follow the instructions in the drawing I uploaded, and you will see that it is easy to build it, Windows detects the cable when connecting it to the radio as a Network connection,

Greetings

If the cable is a 'straight through' cable like the schematic, then it will work if your XPR7550 cable is working. If it isn't working then you have a radio firmware/CPS mismatch issue. Either your firmware is too old, or too new for your current CPS.

Go into the menu, radio info menu, and version or something like that. Write down the firmware version amd post it here. That will help us tell you what's wrong.

Sorry for the delay in updates, but I finally found the problem, a cheap cable from Amazon. I got a better cable and can read the radio perfectly. Thank you, everyone, for your help!
