• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My screen is more readable, but my case and keypad are more beat up. $350 plus flat rate shipping on a facebook group. Sorry for the sideways pic.

Tried that, and got an error message: "No matching package(s) exist"

Make sure the Firmware is installed on your computer, then put your radio into flashzap mode and try it. I believe the 7550's have a flashzap mode, not positive. But if it does it should be the emergency button, along with the PTT button while turning on the radio.

What version of firmware is in the radio? What firmware package do you have installed? That is generally the message you see if the radio has newer firmware than you have installed on your computer. It will not let you put an older version in.

To check what firmware is in your radio, turn the radio on and right after it starts and displays the channel, rapidly press the button directly under the PTT button 5 times.

The firmware version is R02.40.00. I was able to get that info from going into the "Utilities" section on the radio's menu. I am able to program my XPR5550, which has firmware R2.50.05, so I think my CPS should be able to program it.

I saw that radio on eBay and thought it might be a decent buy although knowing the price for a new housing, I wouldn't have gone as high as you did.

The recovery option is your best bet if you can get it working. Try updating the firmware first and then try recovery.

The only other option is to use a tool which won't be discussed here.

I wish the OP luck, but seeing that brand new XPR7550e's sell for $450, & a flat rate repair is $350, that radio was worth $100. Did someone tie a rope around that radio, & attach the other end to a truck bumper & take it for a 10 mile ride. Even if the OP can bring it back to life, & it works properly, the cost of a new case can push the price well north of $500, much more than brand new.

Thanks, robertpearsall! Programmed fine, and now I'm successfully monitoring the local DMR-MARC repeater (among other things).

The only other question I have is that if replacing the LCD screen itself will solve the issue I'm having with missing lines on the screen.

Glad it worked out as for the screen before replacing I would check to see if it's making good contact on board before spending the money

The screen is making good contact with the board, so I suspect the screen is just worn out or something. A new one's only $44 on eBay, and I purchased one shortly after I won the radio.

Glad you were able to get into the radio.

It's not a question of the CPS being able to program it. You need a FIRMWARE file equal to, or greater than, R02.40.00 to be able to use the recovery feature. The newest firmware is something like R02.06.05.0002 (or something close). Motorola screwed up and misnumbered the firmware. They went from R02.50.xx to R02.06.xx where it should have been R02.60.xx

Expect R02.70.xx this month.

I'd be cautious with that display. The lines being intermittent like that could be a break in the flex, not necessarily the screen.

The lines aren't intermittent. They are always there whenever the radio is on.

probably will fix the screen issue. However to get the display you have to buy the whole front housing so it will practically look like a new radio.

Sorry, intermittent was an incorrect word on my part. I should have said "alternating". The XPR's are not easy to work on.

I was fortunate to find a seller on eBay that was selling just the screen and not the entire case. In fact, I have been unable to find a case on eBay.

No returns means nothing on ebay, first contact the seller, if he won't except it, then open a case with ebay for refund. It will almost always go thru, no matter the reason.

Thankfully, now that I got the radio working and in a programmable state, I no longer have to worry about that.

I did have an issue with one of the Impres batteries. When I went to charge it with my Impres charger, the LED on the charger went to yellow, indicating that there was some sort of issue with the battery. The battery was working fine, and I only dropped it in after the radio gave me a low battery message. Is there any particular reason why a perfectly good battery might be doing this? Just so you know, the same charger charges the other two Impres batteries fine, so I don't think the charger is the issue.
