• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Model Number H56RDN9RA1AN
Firmware Version R02.08.01.0000
Codeplug Version 12.00.16
Frequency Range 403.000-512.000

How can I program 401.000 MHz? I want it for RX only so I am not concerned with any TX alignment or poor TX performance.
Is there a way to do this?

TIA

I'm not sure, but I would guess it will require the same hex edit that is used to get the 6580/7580 into the 900mhz ham range. Its worth a shot, but I would assume you need to be on CPS16 and not CPS2.0

OOB edits work on e model 5550s, but never tried it on the 7550. Give it a try and see what happens.

why do you want/need 401. ?
it is kind of in the do not use area of the spectrum.
if you want privacy try 512.1 or so...

Well, well, well.... Nothing helpful to add BUT let me address your concerns.

Weather Balloon Radio Sondes in my area transmit on 401MHz. I have been tracking them and want to use this radio to RECEIVE them as stated in my original post. ( I want it for RX only so I am not concerned with any TX alignment or poor TX performance. )

It IS kind of the used spectrum that Weather Balloons use so there's THAT.

I don't need privacy. Privacy has ZERO to do with my post. With that said I will NOT be using 512.1 or so for ANYTHING.

Next time read AND understand the post PRIOR to throwing your concerns in the mix!
Go sit in the corner until you can contribute to a post.

If the Hex edit method works, please let us know. I have some of those radio sonde devices that came from surplus sales from Mouser Electronics. Would be nice to get my own XPR7550e down a couple more MHz as well. If only I could find my older XPR6550.....I was able to hex edit that one quite a bit.

i did not know i was supposed to know what you wanted to do.
my neighbor just bought a boefang and wanted to know the frequency that was the most private.
just a coincidence.
and thinking that, i was trying to help, you are welcome.
and i would like my 396T to receive 25 to 1300 without gaps, nope, not going to happen.
back to radios

Will narrowband FM be the best mode for monitoring radiosondes?

I'm not sure if they TX in Wide or Narrow band.
I am only using this for the tracking end of this with a yagi for the final location.
At this point I'd like to ask a moderator to close this thread as it's not producing the intended results. It's more of a let's worry about everything BUT the original question. Please, Lock It.

Hello buddy I will just point out this if that 401.000 you want to listen to is not DMR digital. So analog then buy a Motorola XTS 5000 or XTS2500 380-470 BAND SPLIT then you can listen to that frequency

I always try to learn what I can from others with the assumption that they are responding in an attempt to be helpful! It’s not always the information I’m looking for but I value the time it took for them to formulate a response nonetheless. Nobody is trolling you, the forum isn’t your personal tech support, and reasonable suggestions have been made… You sound miserable and I’m sorry about that! Good luck with your problem! @SurgePGH

Brian

I'm interested in tracking weather balloons also, I got a TTGO and a 3d printed box for it. Sends tracking data to my tablet. Cheaper than a 7550e and I get position data straight to my tablet. I'm like $100 total into this project.

Can you elaborate on this? I’m interested as well. I can’t seem to find a TTGO that offers 401MHz, but I’m new to this idea. I agree that especially for RX only work, there are likely some more straightforward options than hex mods for a 7550e that OP may or may not have good luck with.

Thanks,
Brian
