• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Okay, I have a bit of an issue and done many days and hours of searching the interwebs and forums. I purchased another XTS5000 online that came from an auction. I read the radio, no problem. I go to program new things into it, and kicks back saying it cannot due to Advanced System Keys being present. I deleted the trunking system that was on it. I am wondering if this annoying issue can be solved through hex editor. I am a do-it-yourselfer and do not feel like shelling out the money to have this fixed by Moto. Plus, I don't get to learn in the process. I've programmed several of these, however this is the first I have run into this issue and it's an undesirable condition. I have the newest CPS, and hex editor. What can I do??

I would return the radio personally especially if the seller didn't explicitly call this out in the ad. (The radio could be stolen for all you know.)

I haven't used it myself but my understanding is that the Motorola Astro Depot Tools software can revert XTS/XTL units back to factory states but I've never done it myself.

There was a modified cpfix program in the wild that was a legit public released Motorola program that was designed to fix a switch issue but one of the database sources was modified to remove ASK/ACK problems. Might look around the Google's

I acquired the CPS legally for programming my junk. I don't know if messing with depot is something I want to do, as I don't want to brick this radio or run into problems down the line. The radio was bought off a fella that had a mix of different items. The one I bought was the only radio he had for sale. I let him know of the situation and he was willing to do a partial refund, which was nice. I checked to make sure it wasn't a stolen unit. I think I may break down and have it sent to a reputable shop to have it fixed and proper Flashcode put on it. Under $90 isn't bad I guess. I want to stay away from pirated or unlawful software. As always, replies are appreciated!

you don't need depot and a shop may not want to deal with it having an ASK CPfix is out there and works fine

Problem finally solved!

Okay, so after a while of playing with depot (which I didn't want because of reasons) I was able to create a new code plug, match the serial and model number and basically create the Flashcode (cloning my other XTS' flashcode that is confirmed working). I saved that code plug, opened it in the CPS, and it loaded right up. I then cloned over code plug from the other one to this one. No issues anymore. Problem solving at its finest. I can't wait to do my next one, honestly. Anyways, I couldn't locate the CPFIX tool. Hence why I broke down to depot. Thanks again for the responses!

Forgot to mention that the Flashcode options didn't allow for what I wanted. So that was problem number 2 solved.
