Hi everyone! I just picked up a Yaesu FT-3DR radio.

I'm trying to listen into the North Hollywood (15) dispatch, the freq is 484.962500 (Modulation NFM).

Could someone please walk me through the basics on how to tune into this frequency?

I am brand new and unsure as to which band I need to be dialed into.

If your trying to listen to LAPD N Hollywood channel 15, all of LAPD is P25 digital and you would need a P25 digital receiver. The Yaesu FT3D is Yaesu proprietary "Fusion" C4FM digital and will not receive P25 or LAPD.

Well that is really bad news. I thought this radio could listen to P25. What Yaesu radios can listen to P25 that are made by Yaesu?

Your best bet is a scanner. Easier to program and no chance of accidentally transmitting.

I have an SDS100 and really happy with that, but I wanted the ability to carry one unit that could do it all.

For everything else, tap the frequency that is displayed, type int he first six digits of the frequency, and the radio knows the rest.
You will need the step setting on 12.5 or auto to get a 7 digit freq.
