Hi,
I am a new ham radio operator. My club has the FT7900R's and I thought I would purchase one since it would be easy to learn on as I have been using theirs. I purchased the radio off EBay, from this seller: Yaesu ft 7900 VHF UHF Dual Band Mobile Two Way Ham Amateur Radio New 788026116423 | eBay . When I took it up to my club, they said that it wasn't a US version because it had a N connector, and also it could transmit out of bounds. Looking that up, we all thought it was a European radio. Anyway, we used chirp to program it. As it was a new radio, I had registered it for warranty with Yaesu - no problem. I contacted Yaesu with the serial number to inquire if it was US or European version, and they said that my serial number was a US model. I left it at that. I had the radio installed in my car and have been using it on 2m and 70cm just fine. I even get the NOAA weather channels, which if it was European, I wouldn't be able to do. So - why I have a Yaesu with a N connector and out of band capabilities - I have no idea, but my warranty is valid, the radio is solid as a rock, and I am enjoying the tar out of it. For the record, I do not transmit out of bounds and operate legally. Hope this helps.
