I created an account here to share my work around for the free Zello issue. I downloaded BlueStacks. Used the Google Play app store and downloaded the Android version of Zello. Signed in using my free Zello account and can verify that it works and can transmit audio from a streaming source to other Android/iOS devices.

I disabled automatic updates in the Tools - Options. See if that does anything if they send out an updated to disable the app.

I set that up on mine yesterday. But for some reason when I listen to what Zello is broadcasting from my scanner its very faint and over modulated. When I run the windows version is loud and crisp. What needs to be adjusted for Bluestacks to use the input correctly?

I'm using VoiceMeeter Banana. That might make a difference, but I haven't tried to listen using my PC. I was transmitting from one account to a separate account on my phone and listening on my phone. It sounded fine, but the option to lock the channel for any audio to be automatically be transmitted. I'll probably use a auto clicker to hold the mouse left button on the microphone button. It's sad that they are ending the service. I wonder if I could make a private server that would still work with their api and allow me to use the old free app after they axe it.

Just a follow-up on Discord after using it a few days. It seems to be working pretty well. I ended up switching from the stand-alone Discord software to the browser version (using Edge since I don't really use it otherwise). The software worked fine, but it kept my monitors from going to sleep. I don't have this issue with the browser version.

Setup is a private Discord server running on Microsoft Edge on the PC the scanner is connected via 3.5mm cable to an $8 Sabrent USB microphone/speaker adapter (the server can be set up from the Discord site and does not need any port forwarding and/or firewall changes).
The scanner PC joined to a voice chat channel on the Discord server setting the microphone and speaker settings to the correct devices and using VOX, so it only transmits when the scanner breaks squelch.
Using a second Discord account to listen to the channel on my PC using a browser or iOS app (a login can only join the chat once...if you want to listen on the phone and PC at the same time, you'd need separate accounts).
Optional: I'm using "Scanner Recorder" program by Dave Jacobs that I've been using for 20+ years to record the scanner 24/7. It only records when the scanner breaks squelch.

Is it as good or better setup than Zello legacy? Not really, but it's a pretty simple, quick and free way to just listen to the scanner stream that can be set up in a few minutes. If you are doing something more fancy like controlling the radios, that's beyond this.

A very good alternative is mumble-server (murmur) for PC - private server. Listening on iOs Mumble, on Andriod Mumla, on PC Mumble. All free.

Disappointed that the folks at Zello do not provide a seamless conversion for its customers. I'd pay to keep the current version. Wonder if they'll consider that before just turning it off?

Thanks for starting this thread. I was mad at 2am when my radio just went offline. I tried the ssl thing first and closed/restarted the app. That seemed to work for a few hours. I didn't reboot the computer. How much does that matter? Also, any luck disabling the auto-login checkmark? Someone should create a mumble-server (murmur) for PC tutorial. I hate change! lol Does mumble have vox? Is the client end user friendly and run seamless in the background? Thanks!

Zello Works does not see Zello Classic. These are different worlds. The Zello application on PC disconnects from time to time, but this can be partially prevented. In the PC schedule, set zello.exe to close every hour and launch the application after a minute. Solution by the end of July ;)

Talking to them today they needed to update the software because of security issues. I was on the phone with them 3 times and they sent me emails on what to do and a template for the BRIDGE software that I could just drag and drop to build me system and it didn't work. I got a Work account because thats what they said I would need and I downloaded the BRIDGE software they sent the link for. Its a web link that you use in a browser and you "Just build your system" its not easy at all, I am well versed at computers and this is a nightmare. You need to be a computer programmer and know how to write code. I give up with this new Zello. I just got a survey asking for feed back on their tech support. I told them the Tech was great but the new software is terrible and a nightmare to get working, lets see if I get a reply.

might try that. I want to see if I can keep it running more than 24 hours with the connection tweak.

Won't work on the primary scanner computer, because the vox doesn't turn on automatically for the channel source.

Check: Automatic login after Zello start
Uncheck: Automatic start with system
VOX section, check: Saving state...
It works!

Does this have a way to replay voice messages? I’ve set up a server and got my scanner connected but I am unable to replay messages.
