Zello error message. "Can't establish a secure connection"

If you are an emergency service, your department can get a free work account. I just got my FD a free Zello work account. You will need to email Zello from your department email give them the required information and a picture of your department ID. Once you get approved, you can set up 16 different feeds. It is a real PIA to set up, but their tech support is great. I had 2 ZOOM meetings with a tech and she was great. She remoted into my PC and set up all the code and then logged into another PC and added 2 more channels on that one. After that, I knew how to do it myself and added 2 more channels on a third PC. To add members you will need to add every member yourself, you can't just send a text or have them scan a QR code anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but migrating to ZelloWork also means not being able to broadcast to the public, unless they also have a ZelloWork account for your specific organization? So switching between feeds would also require logging out of one account and into another?

I'm hoping to just use Zello Bridge to broadcast on the Friends & Family network, the same way the Legacy App did.

If that doesn't work out, I'll probably go to ZelloWork for my department, and the public can go back to the 2 minute audio delay on Broadcastify.

Correct. ZelloWork is secure and the public cannot listen unless provided access to your network with a username and password.

Yes, you can do this, although it is not the easiest to setup from some stories I've heard. It is my understanding that Zello is making some changes to make it easier to use ZelloBridge with family and friends network.

If that doesn't work out, I'll probably go to ZelloWork for my department, and the public can go back to the 2 minute audio delay on Broadcastify.

If you haven't already, you may want to look into Broadcastify Calls. It has significantly less delay than regular audio feeds.

There is a temporary workaround that will allow you to keep using the legacy PC app – instructions are provided in this support article. The legacy PC app will stop working completely at some point, but we do not have a date set in stone yet. It will likely be sometime next year.

If you want a more permanent solution beyond the iOS or Android version of Zello, consider migrating to Zello Bridge. This support article contains instructions for Friends & Family users.

The August 12 date you're referring to is when recent service changes will go into effect for Zello Work users. The service changes have been in effect for Zello Friends & Family since June.

There is a temporary workaround that will allow you to keep using the legacy PC app – instructions are provided in this support article. The legacy PC app will stop working completely at some point, but we do not have a date set in stone yet. It will likely be sometime next year.

If you want a more permanent solution beyond the iOS or Android version of Zello, consider migrating to Zello Bridge. This support article contains instructions for Friends & Family users.

I have two Radio Gateways running on Windows with the legacy F&F App 2.6 - this app does not support exporting the the config so the migration from Windows Legacy PC App to Zello Bridge is not possible. I need to manually edit the ZelloBridge.json file but for some reason I just can not get it to connect. I have followed the bit about generating a token in the developer console and have added the sample developer token to the config but I just get an error 3002 authorisation error.

I took the hashed password from my working 2.6 config.

What am I doing wrong?

I just got mine working today and that was really the thing I was missing, had the wrong url in that location of the json script.

Thanks for replying - yes I had found the correct domain for the F&F service.

Will we need to constantly renew this token do you know or is a way to make it permanent.

For now, renew every 30 days.
I set a calendar reminder on my phone to warn me 1 day ahead of time.
A little annoying, but only a 5 min task, 12 times a year. Better than not having a feed, I suppose.

Hi! I made a script that monitors Zello Bridge connector status and if it gets disconnected with error code 3002, it generates new tokens for all connectors and restarts the bridge. Here is a working example:

Oh, and I am also developing Gnuradio block to stream to Zello from Gnuradio and SDR in my case. The current schematic is only for one channel, but the plan is to stream at least 3.



The block generates its own token. As you can see from the log on the bottom left, it works pretty well but there's still room for improvement

It would be nice if there was a SDR program that could stream multiple channels to Zello. All one would have to do is enter the gateway and channel information.

That would be fantastic - I run my Zello to RF gateways on a Headless Windows Thin Client so this 30 day thing would become a bit of a bind to do compared to the years I have had trouble free with the Legacy App.

Would be interested in your code - I am not a programmer so a few pointers / tips would be helpful also.

The code is available on my github page. I didn't have time to create readme so here is the quick manual:

1. download ZelloBridgeWatchdog.py
2. install PyJWT library with "pip install PyJWT cryptography"
3. backup your ZelloBridge.json file because it will get overwritten every time new token is generated
4. delete your developer token from ZelloBridge.json so new one will be generated by the script. Note the username/names in your ZelloBridge.json as you will have to create files for each user in step 5 and 6.
5. copy your private key (i.e. the text file where you have stored your private key procured from Zello developer portal) to Zello Bridge folder in Program Files and name it "your_username.pem".
6. copy your issuer (i.e. the text file where you have stored your issuer code procured from Zello developer portal) to Zello Bridge folder in Program Files and name it "your_username.txt".
7. run ZelloBridgeWatchdog.py
8. click Restart in Zello Bridge web interface and monitor the script console for any errors.

(if everything goes horribly wrong, you can restore your original ZelloBridge.json from backup - just kill the script first)

NOTE: in my two days of testing, I have discovered that the bridge disconnects randomly, sometimes after 2 hours, sometimes after 8. The watchdog will generate new connection tokens and reconnect in a few seconds. Maybe this is normal operation for zello bridge when it's idle (not streaming). I still need to compare Zello Bridge connection logs when using 30 day sample token.

Zello Desktop stopped working for me. The software starts and appears to login fine, but nobody in the channel can see the desktop node. It acts like it is joined to a channel where it is the only user connected. I don't care about Zello enough to fight with it. It was fun while it lasted.

They even killed the legacy pc work program. I hate the new program. It’s not user friendly. I most likely won’t use it when they completely kill the only work around.

Im wondering if it will go in stages. At least right now both of my scanners are still online and talking. Don't know for how long but will take what time it gives me. I do have bluestacks and zello set on one pc for when they do kill the desktop app.
