Has anyone setup a zello feed using a ROIP (Radio Over IP) gateway for streaming a radio channel? I was looking at doing it with a rasberry pi but decided not to. The radio does have a 3.5 jack out on it for audio.
I know this post is older but I have many times over. If your still wanting my experimental info hit me back I’ve learned some tricks along the way

Can we define “gateway”? To me, that implies two-way communication between a radio frequency and a zello channel. When there is activity on the radio frequency it is passed to the Zello channel. Likewise, when there is activity on the zello channel it is passed (through a radio transmitter) to the radio frequency. This two-way communication can be done but is a little complex to set up.

Setting up a scanner or radio to stream its audio to a Zello Channel is relatively easy (one-way communication.)

Can you share or is this proprietary?

This is a gateway. The gateway can be used one-way or two-way.

Hello,

I'm trying to setup Zello for our fire department. Currently, we have a NX-5700 with 25-pin connector to NXU-2B and Networked to a switch on our network and the computer with Zello bridge is installed. I don't think something is setup correctly. I cannot get the API to create nor the NXU-2B to activate when the radio is keyed or hears any traffic. Basically, I'm back to square 1 trying to set this up. Can someone help me out setting this up for the radio (I have licensed software to the department to make changes). And I don't know if I have the correct software installed. Trying to get this up and running before our trial expires.

Thank you
Chief

Did you ever get this working? I am running the same setup for a local FD.

Call JPS and they have excellent support. You have to set the TOR/COR and PTT options. Message me and I will send you a codeplug for the NX700 series.
We have the RSP-Z2 connected to a Motrbo radio with good results. I also have an older NXU-2A to a XTL 2500 which uses a mini-PC to run the connector bridge. That seems to work well. But I will defiantly take you up on the NX-700 codeplug. We have a customer that will need that for their system. I will message you my email address.

For anyone else interested, here is how to direct connect to your PC. The relay is not needed if you use a USB-to-serial adapter. Get a USB to serial because using a built-in com port grounds the pin when the PC loses power or on restart.

Would your PC then run the dispatch app, or the connector bridge software?

Is there a solution for the Raspberry Pi for Zello for Roip? I know it's possible to setup a Roip using Windows and a Audio interface to radio side. Thanks

I run a Zello RF gateway into my amateur radio system. I would not recommend Zello for Fire Department use. If a Zello user is in a poor cellular coverage area, I have seen both TX and RX audio delayed by several minutes. It caused confusion. As a former USMSS radio technician, I would not advise using Zello to extend your radio coverage due to the Zello design (delays by design).

I have four counties and two parishes on my Zello for Work. We have never had that happen in four years. That's like saying you shouldn't have multiple channels/talkgroups in your radio because you might get on the wrong channel/talkgroup and miss traffic.
