2013 VHF Low Band Logs

I hear these only when the band is open to South America.

Due to the propagation effects on the audio suggesting they're further than northern South America and some of the ATRAD type radars about at the same time I wonder if these are from Argentina?

Two Brasilian dispatchers have been indentified thanks to a Brasilian DXer.

34.82MHz CSQ is from Macapa, Amapa state, northern Brazil.
Not sure if this is the only licence with no CTCSS on this frequency but it's the one I hear most commonly in the UK and was ID'd from a recording I made.

33.6MHz AM is from Itabuna, Bahia state, Brazil
This one is unusual because it's in AM and he says is the only licence for this frequency in the country.

31.00 FM Range Control, unknown location, very active. Range Control is callsign "Charlie 92" - Any ideas who this is?

34.70 FM Range Control - most likely Camp Lejeune, NC.

Not a bad day! Watching 3Mhz of spectrum on the dongle and letting it control
the 8500 seems to be the ideal way of catching brief transmissions at the MUF.

The Spanish dispatchers on 33.55 and 35.55 were firsts and slightly further south
than the bulk of the US traffic. The 29.85 Radar in London, ON was extremely
strong all afternoon, periodic checks of 38.15 didn't produce any results.

It never ceases to amaze me how much power your systems use over there but it goes to show the task involved in covering the huge areas you have, do the mobiles run similar high power?

On the farm here i think the base is 250 watts and our mobiles are 100 watts and in the tractor it is 40 watts of course we get really good range from the mobiles back to the farm when they are in town 30 miles away in danville or 45 miles away in either roanoke or lynchburg it spotty mostly in town but better in the open areas or on higher ground levels donna

Tony, thank you for the ID and interesting information, in the UK we don't use low band for comms, ours start at 68MHz but even then at a paltry 25W RF. It never ceases to amaze me how much power your systems use over there but it goes to show the task involved in covering the huge areas you have, do the mobiles run similar high power?

KKN50 Many thanks for those ID's, I'll add them to my list. I've forwarded the 33.35 (and 35.55) recording to a Spanish ham who is very good at locating regional accents, will post any useful responses.

Follow up-been a bit busy at work . . . .
When we were using Lowband 33.70 on a daily basis, the 300W base station paired with 110W mobile units and talk in versus talk out (from the base station perspective) was balanced. Once our users migrated to our trunked radio system here at Fayette County 911, the 300W base provided good coverage to pagers used by the fire personnel.
