I use a device that will drop the load (scanner) from the battery if the supply voltage drops too low. Mine is from west mountain radio, power werx or dx engineering. I think I have the powergate, but they may have changed the name of them.
They're kinda pricey, I've found similar deices for much less on Amazon.

Jeff.

...that's not what I'm looking for. I have a ChargeGuard. Everything else (XTLs, Uniden 996XT, etc) stays on when I restart the truck after fueling or something of that sort...except the 536.

NewMar makes a "mobile UPS" that will handle this sort of stuff. It's mostly intended for mobile data terminals, but it'll work here. Not a cheap solution, but it'll do the trick.
Basically a 12 volt battery that supports the radio while the vehicle voltage drops.
DC UPS & Power Control | 6 - 50 VDC | 10 - 200 Amps | Newmar | Powering the Network

That has given me something to start searching for. I was hoping a DC buck/boost deal would work for my needs...but the one I have does not do the trick. Thanks.

I just run a 436 in the vehicle, which has an internal battery backup, and doesn't care about power fluctuations until the vehicle battery drops to 5V or so.

That's great...but the 536 does not behave that way as the thread indicates...

I had the same problem with my 536 in my 2011 F150, which I fixed using a"DROK Waterproof 48W Automatic Step Up/Down Regulator." Amazon sells it for $17. Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018WZFRNE

I've been using this device for 15 months now, and have had no problems. I mounted it next to the glove compartment and pulled the power from the accessory socket between the console and the glove compartment. It's waterproof and well-built, so it could probably be mounted in the engine compartment if preferred.
