I use the BNSF channel as a band opening indicator in my company car that has a Kenwood TK-690 in it...it's always in the scan list.

DX Maps showing fair number of trans-Atlantic phone QSO's on 10 M Phone mode---Tropo and Sporadic E. This is mid-morning EST on Sunday, December 26. No good antennas up here to check, but in a bit will check some on-line receivers out. 27.555 USB should be a good indicator frequency to see if 11m is good too.

Where do these transmissions originate?

Along the BNSF right-of-way and from vehicles capable of traveling on the rail. I don't think they deployed this everywhere, but it does exist in the western states.
