Uniden has warranty repair service for their scanners. If your scanner isn't working right, send it in for repair.

WOW! The incompetence of this company is ridiculous! Just purchased a BCD436HP and I thought maybe it was something I was doing when setting the clock. VERY DISAPPOINTED reading all these posts knowing I am experiencing the same issue. Nobody should have to go thru all these BS steps to see if the product works right. I dont have the time or patience to play games right now. What is the compensation being offered for this inconvience? NOTHING im sure other then a repair on a product that should be recalled and throw in a pile and burned! Im sending this $500 piece of junk back for a full refund and will make sure I never purchase another uniden product again. EVERYONE SHOULD DO THE SAME!

What is the purpose of the clock and time anyway? Is it for recordings?

I notice this 2 weeks ago when I turn on the 436hp it asks me to setup time and etc.... I did that a few days later it asks again. I use rechargeable batteries (I don't charge them in the radio) Since yesterday I've had it plugged in going to see if what it does when I unplug it sometime Saturday.

To charge the Clock battery you have to do the following.

Have the 3 Nimh batteries in the scanner.
Plug the USB cable into a power source and the 436.
Set the 436 to Charge.
Turn on the scanner (monitoring).
For charging the Clock battery fully the first time it takes a total of 50 hours using the above setup.

So it will take several days, up to a week of use to fully charge the Clock battery. After the first charge, simply running the 436 using the USB cable to supply power several times a week, will keep the Clock battery charged.

Note: Using the above method will not charge the 3 Nimh batteries. The Nimh batteries will only charge when the scanner is turned off.

I hope this helps.

I haven't had my 436 on USB power since sometime last summer. It runs exclusively on batteries and I haven't had to reset the clock since the day I unboxed it last May.

Anyone had this issue?

when i power my 436 up, i get a screen to reset the clock....when I try to do this the by pressing the "E" button, to go through the Clock steps, I get a "Keypad Locke- ON" message.

When I press the function and then the "on/off/ and lock" button which the manual says is how to turn the keypad lock off, by toggling the function then the on/off/lock,,,i get nothing but beeps and can't seem to toggle the keypad lock off.

so the keypad lock being on is preventing me from setting the clock it appears...but with that said me being unable to set the clock is preventing me from turning the keypad lock off?? any recommendations for how to clear this up???

I don't use my PSR-800 too much anymore, but when I turn it on, the clock is still ticking away.....
As for the 800, that isn't good. If it uses a battery then one day it will just stop working period.

Just saw the above while browsing around for PSR-800 related stuff...

When "off" and not connected to external (USB) power, the PSR-800's RTC device is powered from the 4 AA cells, drawing a couple of microamps. To handle battery swapping, there's a little cap that keeps the RTC happy for 5 minutes, or so.

So basically a software patch is going to fix a hardware problem.

I wonder how this patch affect scanners that do not have a rtc issue.

It appears that eventually ALL the x36 scanners will have this problem because scanners that seemed to work fine for about a year are just starting to show symptoms.

Just spoke to Caleb at Uniden product support regarding the clock issue. a "fix" via firmware should be out at the end of April according to him. He did not specify how it would be done but said it would be through Sentinel. (how else do you update firmware?) Just wonder if end of April means beginning of July....

Today when you power on if the clock (date & time) is not set, you have to set the date and time before the scanner will let you scan.

The firmware fix is simply adding the option to ignore the clock (not forcing you to set the date & time) and let the scanner immediately start to scan.

The down side is if your battery is dead and you decide to record, there won't be a (valid) time stamp.

For those with a working battery (clock) there no penalty.

I'll reserve comment until the fix is released...and working. But am happy to see there is potentially a light at the end of the tunnel...albeit somewhat dimly lit.

436HP clock issues

Well I tried Upman's experiment. I plugged in my 436, turned it on, set the clock and left it plugged in for 48 hours. Then unplugged it, turned it off & left it off for 9 hrs. When I turned it on (not plugged in) it booted up fine and started scanning. Thought it was OK. When I turned it on this AM it said to set the time again. So I guess I'll wait for the update & see what that does. I really don't care if the clock works or not because I don't use it for anything but listening anyway.

My 436 is one of the ones that began this behavior about 2 weeks before the end of the warranty. It bothers me to see people referring to the upcoming firmware release as a "fix." As it has been described, it is not a fix; it's a workaround, and not a very good one (though I'll admit it may be the best they can do given the fact that we've got a major design/hardware failure here). If you don't care about the time being accurate, the firmware will probably be just fine. If you do, this won't be a fix at all. These scanners are too expensive to accept anything less than an actual fix, even if that means an updated board at Uniden's expense. The customer didn't cause this to happen.

I've owned nearly every high-end handheld scanner produced by Uniden since the BC100XL in the 1980's. Whether I own any more will depend entirely on the outcome of this problem. I want badly to believe that Uniden will do what needs to be done to make this right; I want to sing the praises of a company that did the right thing even when it was painful. The alternative is to leave me holding the $500 bag with a radio that went defective while still under warranty and the company refused to fix it.

Its been stated on here, officially, that the clock issue is not subject to the traditional warranty expiration.

I appreciate you mentioning that, I was not aware of it. However, I'm not sure how much practical good it does to exempt the issue, when there doesn't seem to be any progress toward a solution for it.
