I am running ARC996T PRO on a Win7 DELL T7400 with SoundMax. In ARC996Pro, Virtual Control>Recording there is a button "Set Recording Volume." It doesn't do anything.

What I want to do is change the sound source -- it is now "line in" -- I want to change it to a USB Sound Card. I already know about the speaker thingy in the tray and playback/recording devices right-click menus. No joy there. Something in ARC996 needs to point to the possible sound inputs but I can't find it. Nor can I figure out why "Set Recording Volume" doesn't do anything.

I've been doing this stuff for over 50 years and still can't figure the mind of the programmer.

Win7 does not support that shortcut, you need to manually open the recording panel.

I have figured out several things. 1) The input used by ARC996 is whatever is the Windows7 default sound source when you start the software. 2) My computer with soundmax has three places to control the sensitivity of the Line-In (rear input.) Only one of them works and you have to be lucky enough to find it.

I switched to ScanControl which I find superior in several respects, the main one being it doesn't crash all the time. I do wish 1)ScanControl would not set the Recording Device input level to 100 every time it starts; and 2), that I could tell it to store the audio files somewhere besides the ProgramFiles\ScanControl folder. (I know, I could install it somewhere else, but still...)

I would also like to organize the audio files differently. For evidential purposes, what's important is the call time and interaction with other agencies. When different groups (agencies) are separated into different files, it is hard to get a sense of what happened. (I am speaking of DTR systems; in our case each agency has it's own Group ID.)
