I'm mulling over the purchase of a new mobile scanner, and I see that most of the trunking systems I monitor are "mixed" analog and APCO-25 systems (Viper, Char/Meck, Forsyth). My question is this; will I need to get the BCD996 in order to hear the APCO-25 stuff, or can I save 300 bucks on the BCT-15 because the APCO-25 is currently broadcast analog? I realize in a few years this may be a moot point, but by then I'll have won either the Megamillions or Powerball and money won't be an object. I also almost never use "close call", or "search" features; I pretty much know what I wanna hear.
I might also mention that I already have a BCD396 portable; I just like having a mobile scanner in my car for convenience and not always dragging it in and out and constantly unplugging antenna/speaker/power/USB cables to get it in the house. The BCT-15x meets my feature-set requirement but doesn't do digital which I believe is the main feature of the 996.
