i cant find repeater find under the Program System menu only under the Srch/CloseCall Opt menu. anyways i never would have started post about this if it worked, it dosnt work on mine. and i would like to know how it finds the offset frequency without you programming it in there?

So just because you have not found out how to make it work that means it doesn't work at all right? And I explained in my post above how it works.....very simply: there are parts of the spectrum in which standard offsets are used...
Example: UHF 460Mhz where the repeater inputs are +5 Meg higher...there are rare exceptions but going with this as a rule Uniden gives you the ability to reverse and go to the standard offset frequency....

When the scanner stops on a conventional channel, press HOLD. Then press and hold F+REV to monitor the reverse. (The actual button assigned to REV depends on the model.)

How does radio handle encryption?

Does the radio stop and mute on encrypted TGIDs/frequencies?

Or does the radio resume scanning/searching after detecting encryption?

I would really like to see the radio skip encryption. It is a pain to have to have the radio just sit there muted on an encrypted channel that only uses part time encryption.

Will there still only be 10 channels for Fire-Tone Out? I have check the wiki and all it has is Fire-Tone Out for the radios.

It will probably be the same as the BCD396T and will skip encryption and resume scanning
(normally after a millisecond pause).

Uniden is alone in this feature, and GRE does NOT have it.

I think you are incorrect. In the existing 396 firmware, when the radio receives an encrypted tgid/frequency, the radio pauses on the tgid/frequency and mutes the audio for the duration of the transmission.

I would prefer that the radio perform as you think it does. Skip the encrypted channels without delay...

I haven't used my 396 on a system with encryption for a while now, but for what it's worth, the 996 moves on immediately using either v2 or v3 firmware. I get frustrated at that because I want to reach up and lockout the channel, because the radio will come back to it on the next pass - but it's already moved on. :D

Encrypted TG

I don't mind the radio muting the TG, but I don't like it resuming as if it didn't exist.

Case 1 - One side of the conversation is encrypted, the other isn't. Scanner should delay as programmed even on ENC so you can hear what's available.

Case 2 - ENC should still stay on a channel so the basic channel information (NAC, TGID, freq, ...) can be logged (visually or PC).

I suppose this could be some flavor of option.

Ok, different strokes for different folks. But if there is a long muted encrypted exchange. Do you want to have the radio just sit there while you're missing other unencrypted transmissions on other channels?

My issue exactly with the 396.
If your not looking to lock out, alot of wasted scanning time.

Since the lockout on the XT is temporary, press it - and then next time you turn off/on the scanner it's back.

True but then you miss any analog/in the clear conversations that might be on that TG until the next time you turn on the scanner.

Theoretically if you put that talkgroup in a group and not lock it out, it will bypass the talkgroup when it is encrypted and if it is not encrypted it will allow you to listen.

I personally would like to see (Trying to put this in the correct wording) a more stable Reciever, less prone to intermod, and if possible more error correction in digital mode to overcome simulcast distortion, of course this may only be a dream but heck i may as well throw it out there.

I certainly wish it did resume scan when it detects a Encrypted transmission. This is a much needed update! Is UPMAN listening?

The State system in NC has encrypted and unencrypted transmissions on the same trunk group IDs and the BCD396T stays locked on the channel when receiving an encrypted channel. It's able to display it's encrypted, why can't it resume scan when it detects ENC ????????!!!!!!!!!
