That simply tells me what the message look like from the radio to some program. I understand that. Where is there something that tells me what things like '3C0,0,4900' or '30B,0,2021' mean? I know that's the data from the control channel. I want to know how to turn it into something meaningful.

Reread it...it tells you step by step in those box diagrams how to decode that info.
Just have to spend a little time studying the info brother! :)

Again. That much I understand. Pages 121-125 show you how to parse the "descriptive" versions of the control channel data. From what little I've been able to find, you can tell a lot more from the raw data. For example, you can tell the radio ID of the radio requesting a talkgroup. The "descriptive" message portions don't tell that.

Plus, the "descriptive" information only comes if the user has the Data Stream Output mode set to EXTENDED. Assume I am using ON, and not getting the descriptive stuff.

OK. Let's take the 396XT off the table. Assume I am doing this via a data splice on a 396T. I don't have the desciptive stuff. It just tells me '3C0,0,4900' or '30B,0,2021'. How do I parse that?

I think what you are asking for is table of the various types of TRS control signals themselves, e.g. Mot OSW 0x03C0 = System Status. If that is the case that is a subject for a thread in a different forum and I am not aware of any developer who has put together such a list covering multiple TRS types. Try posing your question over on the Trunker/Etrunker/Unitrunker Decoders forum.

Has Uniden annouced a release date, for the 396...if this question hasnt already been answered..

From the 1st post in this thread:

Both models are expected to be released in early 2009 at prices comparable to the models being replaced.

No other date has been announced other than 1st Quarter of this year.

Seems I need to save this response to a text file on my desktop so every time this question gets asked I can copy & paste and save some time. :D

Thanks Lou,

I started by posting over there. They suggested the cross-post over to here. BTW, your example is perfect. That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Sorry about the confusion. There is a difference between the original data stream decode and what Uniden has in that book there. Looks like the guys over there have you pointed in the right direction. Anything that can help further the quest of deciphering the data stream I am all for!
Good Luck and Happy Monitoring!

It's so obvious even a caveman can see it! <chuckle>

How did you know what the girlfriend calls me?? :D :)
Heck, she even says I should try out for the Geico commercials.
*sigh* I get no respect.

("double D", Hello Kitty version)

There's a nice alternative to the NASCAR version. Think we can get the "Hello Kitty" logo on Uniden scanners?

Of course, we would need an optional pink case.

Anyone know if the existing BC-RH96 remote head (which is compatible with the 996t, bct15, 396t, and a few others) will be compatible with the new 346xt and/or 396xt?

Already been answered a few times in this thread.
From Paul himself:

BC-RH96 will get an update to support the new models.

Actually reading the thread before asking a question is advised.

Will we be able to use our .usd files to program the new radios?
Still haven't gotten an answer on whether there will be UASD software out at the same time as the radios?

P.S. Happy anniversary-4 months since the announcement came out.....
Where are the radios?

Rumor has it Freescan will support importing UASD files then massage them so they can work with the 396xt. I have heard that there are a few differences in the data between the 396D/996/396xt so there is a little converting that needs to done.
And I have also heard that xt support was being worked on in the UASD software but I will defer to UPMan and let him discuss that part of the deal.
Happy Monitoring!

Hmm, a little disappointed in the fact that the FCC submission model is displaying a serial programming cable as an included accessory.

These 2 models should be shipping with nothing less than the USB-1 by default...

If you don't have the serial cable you can't hook it to a GPS. Both would be nice though.

This has been hashed & rehased already in this thread.
UPMan explains why a serial cable is included.
Reading over it might help you understand why they
made this decision.

Sorry about that, Marshall! After 38 pages, it got a little tough to keep up with this thread on a daily basis...
